Size: 6″ w x 8″ h
Canvas Type: Gallery Wrap Stretched Canvas
Frame: Unframed; Ready to Hang
Signed: On the front
COA: Signed Certificate of Authenticity

A one-of-a-kind insect art painting of the Papilio Machaon Caterpillar (commonly known as the Swallowtail Butterfly Caterpillar). The yellow and black striped caterpillar wiggles and climbs its way up a stalk of Queen Ann’s Lace. Hand-painted and signed in the lower left corner on high-quality 6×8 inch canvas by insect artist Teresa Bernard.

Swallowtail Butterfly Caterpillar is a smaller artwork painted by hand on premium gallery wrap canvas. Its scaled-down size makes it ideal for locations that are cramped or constrained. Because the composition wraps around the edges of the canvas, it does not need to be framed before being displayed. However, if you choose to have it framed, it will look fantastic. Upon purchase, this insect oil painting is accompanied by an official Certificate of Authenticity (COA).

Artist Comments

I saw this little caterpillar one day and thought it would be a fun painting to do. Its colorful stripes and long body is what caught my attention. Someday soon this little insect will transform into a beautiful Swallowtail Butterfly.

Some Interesting Facts about Caterpillars

Are caterpillars insects?
Yes. Caterpillars, like their parent butterflies or moths, are insects. The caterpillar’s only job is to eat. It can grow and expand its size more than 1,000 times while eating before metamorphosing into a moth or butterfly.

Caterpillars have twelve eyes.
A caterpillar has twelve tiny eyes called stemmata; six on each side of its head. One would think that a creature with so many eyes would have excellent vision, but not in this case. Their tiny eyes only aid in distinguishing between light and dark.

Caterpillars have a huge number of muscles in their bodies.
The muscles in a caterpillar far outnumber those in humans. A caterpillar has 4,000 muscles, while humans have 650. They rely on these muscles to move because they do not have any bones inside them.

Artist Comments

I love trees! They are beneficial to our environment and well-being. Not to mention they have such a calming effect and are so beautiful. So I thought I would share a favorite poem about trees. The title of this painting was inspired by a poem.

A Favorite Poem About Trees

Song of the Trees

by Mary Colborne-Veel

We are the Trees.
Our dark and leafy glade
Bands the bright earth with softer mysteries.
Beneath us changed and tamed the seasons run:
In burning zones, we build against the sun
Long centuries of shade.

We are the Trees,
Who grow for man’s desire,
Heat in our faithful hearts, and fruits that please.
Dwelling beneath our tents, he lightly gains
The few sufficiencies his life attains—
Shelter, and food, and fire.

We are the Trees
That by great waters stand,
By rills that murmur to our murmuring bees.
And where, in tracts all desolate and waste,
The palm-foot stays, man follows on, to taste
Springs in the desert sand.

We are the Trees
Who travel where he goes
Over the vast, inhuman, wandering seas.
His tutors we, in that adventure brave—
He launched with us upon the untried wave,
And now its mastery knows.

We are the Trees
Who bear him company
In life and death. His happy sylvan ease
He wins through us; through us, his cities spread
That like a forest guard his unfenced head
’Gainst storm and bitter sky.

We are the Trees.
On us the dying rest
Their strange, sad eyes, in farewell messages.
And we, his comrades still, since earth began,
Wave mournful boughs above the grave of man,
And coffin his cold breast.

This poem is in the public domain.

Artist Comments

I’m a huge supporter of the United States Space Program, both the military and civilian branches, and this painting is a tribute to them. I love traveling to new places, and for me, outer space would be the ultimate adventure in this physical universe.

About the U.S. Space Shuttle

The Space Shuttle is a retired spacecraft system operated by NASA from 1981 to 2011 as part of the United States Space Shuttle program. It was intended to be a partially reusable spacecraft that would be launched like a rocket and landed on a runway like a glider. The space shuttle launched astronauts and cargo into space and returned them safely.

The United States Space Program has constructed six space shuttles since it began. The initial shuttle, Enterprise, served as a prototype and was transported on its inaugural journey by a Boeing 747, although it never reached space. The remaining shuttles, Challenger, Columbia, Discovery, Atlantis, and Endeavour, all completed space missions.

Canvas Type: Traditional Stretched Canvas
Frame: Unframed

COA: Signed Certificate of Authenticity

This one-of-a-kind painting depicts a still life of vintage objects typical of a home office or study. A stack of hardcover books, a feather quill pen, a candlestick in a tall candle holder, a pair of spectacles, and a glass of wine are arranged on top of an antique wood desk. The monochromatic (single-color) palette used in this painting gives it a vintage look. The painting is signed in the lower left side by artist Teresa Bernard.

The Study painting will need to be mounted in a frame before it is shown because the edges of the traditional stretched canvas are unpainted or raw. This still life oil painting comes with an official Certificate of Authenticity (COA) with your purchase.

The copyright watermark ©️ teresabernardart.com is used exclusively for online purposes and does not appear on the original canvas artwork.

Artist Comments

The Study is the first painting I’ve done using a monochromatic color scheme. What this means is that I deliberately chose to restrict the number of paint colors I used when doing this painting. The sepias I chose to use in this still life give it a vintage look.  This would be great wall décor for an office, study, den, or even a “man cave.”

What exactly is monochromatic?

A monochromatic color scheme is based on variations of a single hue, creating a palette through different shades, tints, and tones of that color.

An original oil painting of the full moon and the Earth as viewed from the International Space Station (ISS). The moon is in a very close orbit above the Earth in the foreground. This small 6×6 inch painting, titled A View of The Full Moon and Earth, is perfect for compact spaces. It is hand-painted on a gallery wrap canvas which allows the artist to extend the image over the edges, creating a modern frameless look. Whether you choose to frame it or not, this piece is sure to enhance the ambiance of your home, office, or any space it is showcased. Comes with a custom Certificate of Authenticity (COA).

Artist Comments

The view of the full moon and Earth in this painting is from the International Space Station (ISS). I composed it using a NASA photo as a reference. An astronaut aboard the ISS captured the photograph while looking out a window at the moon. (See the link International Space Station | NASA to view the actual photo.) A View of The Full Moon and Earth painting makes it appear as if the Moon is in close orbit, hovering directly over the Earth, but this is not the case. The Moon is approximately 238,855 miles away, while the ISS orbits roughly 250 miles above the Earth.

An original painting depicting a faraway galaxy. This space art features a planet with binary stars: a larger yellow sun and a smaller red sun. Artist Comments

This faraway galaxy painting is one of several small space artworks I’ve done. As a huge fan of the space program, I’m often looking at images of distant star systems, nebulae, constellations, planets, and moons, and considering how I might compose a painting from them. Some of my space paintings are based on NASA photos, such as “First Man on the Moon,” while others are entirely based on my imagination.

Artist Comments

The Sea of Galilee is a large freshwater lake located in northeast Israel, between the Golan Heights and the Galilee region. The Jordan River is its primary source of water. The lake is approximately 13 miles long and 8 miles wide.

My love of God’s word and Bible readings about Jesus inspired this painting of the famous Sea of Galilee. Israel is very important to me because it is home to God’s chosen people. I’ve never been to Israel, but it’s somewhere I’d like to visit someday. This painting was composed using a reference photo from the “Pictorial Library of Bible Lands.” The photographer, Todd Bolen, graciously permitted me to use his photographs for any of my Bible land paintings.

According to Matthew 4:13-22, this historic biblical location is where Jesus began His ministry and called His first disciples. This passage tells us Jesus left Nazareth and went to Capernaum. While walking along the Sea of Galilee, He called the first four of His disciples Simon (also called Peter), Andrew, James, and John.

Artist Comments

Monument Valley in Utah, often referred to as the “Valley of the Rocks,” is recognized as one of the natural wonders of the world and is arguably the most iconic representation of the American Old West. The valley has been a preferred setting for Western films for many years. Its isolated red mesas, dramatic spires, and sandstone buttes, set against a backdrop of a vast, sandy desert, have been captured on film and in photographs numerous times throughout history.

Called Tsé Bii’ Ndzisgaii (Valley of the Rocks) by the Navajo, this famous valley lies in the southern part of Utah near the Arizona border within the Navajo Nation Reservation. When you first approach the area, these rock “monuments” will take your breath away. The eerie rock formations make you feel like you’ve been transported to another planet. It is truly one of the most majestic places on earth.

The first time I visited Monument Valley National Park, I knew right away I’d be doing a painting of this beautiful valley. Indeed, I have created multiple paintings of this location. I also have memories of several paintings I did of this place when I was a young student of art studying art under my dad, a professional oil painting artist. My dad loved painting this location too and produced several oil paintings of it himself. The whereabouts of these paintings remain uncertain after they were sold to art collectors and local businesses in the small town where we lived.

An art piece with a nautical theme that includes fishing boat fenders, chains, and pier columns. This artistic work would be an excellent gift for someone in your life who enjoys the water, fishing, or boating. It would make a wonderful addition to the nautical-themed decor in your house, office, man cave, or fishing cabin.

Teresa Bernard, a realistic artist, painstakingly hand-painted and signed this sturdy 9×12-inch canvas board artwork in lower left corner. It is best to frame this painting before hanging it on the wall. An official Certificate of Authenticity (COA) is included with purchase of this marine painting.

The copyright watermark ©️ teresabernardart.com is not present on the physical canvas art.

Artist Comments

Sometimes I like to give myself a challenge when choosing a subject matter for my paintings. I found these fishing boat fenders tied to the pillar of a fishing pier very interesting because of all the different textures (wood pier, rusty chains, and rubbery boat fenders) present. I thought they would make an interesting challenge trying to paint all that texture. One does get a sense of texture from the detail in this artwork.

What are boat fenders?

A boat fender is a type of bumper or cushioned buffer used to prevent a boat or other watercraft from bumping into a dock, pier, or another boat causing damage to its hull. They are often constructed of rubber, foam, or plastic, and they come in various shapes and sizes depending on their use.
