An old wooden rowboat is docked at a pier on a lake or pond in this oil painting.
A one-of-a-kind painting of an old wooden rowboat moored at a pier with lily pads and water reflections. It captures that nostalgic feeling of summer. Hand-painted and signed in the lower left corner by marine artist Teresa Bernard.
Skillfully created by hand on a quality gallery wrap canvas, Rowboat at The Pier extends its composition around the sides of the canvas. When an artwork is painted on this kind of canvas, a frame is not necessary for exhibition; yet it will still look amazing if you decide to have it framed. It comes with an official Certificate of Authenticity (COA).
Artists frequently draw inspiration from their surroundings. We live out in the country. One of our neighbors lives down the road and around the corner from us. He has a large pond near the road with a small dock and a rowboat tied to it. Across from him is another neighbor who also has a pond near the road. It’s a smaller pond with lily pads. We pass by these two ponds almost every day on our way to and from our place to the nearby towns. The inspiration for this painting came from our neighbor’s ponds.

This monarch butterfly painting is one of several compact-size paintings I’ve composed. I decided to do some smaller paintings to attract a broader range of buyers and collectors for my art pieces. So I purchased a supply of 6×6 inch stretched canvases and started composing paintings on them. I work on these small canvases alongside the larger paintings when I paint, working on both sized artworks during the same painting session. I had no idea how much I would enjoy creating these smaller paintings until I started doing them.

Title: The American Bison
Size: 24″ w x 18″ h
Canvas Type: Gallery Wrap Stretched Canvas
Frame: Unframed; Ready to Hang
Signed: On the front
COA: Signed Certificate of Authenticity
A Teresa Bernard Oil Painting
An original painting of our nation’s official national mammal, the American bison. This large artwork would look fantastic with any rustic decor.
A wildlife painting depicting a lone American Bison standing out on the open range. In the background, the prairie rises to meet a blue sky with wispy overhead clouds. This painting will look great in any rustic, Native American, or western-theme room. The artwork is signed by wildlife artist Teresa Bernard.
The one-of-a-kind artwork, American Bison, was professionally hand-crafted on a gallery wrap stretched canvas. The artist has taken great care to carry the composition onto the canvas’s edge. When a painting’s composition is on this kind of canvas, a frame is not necessary for exhibition; but, if you wish to have it framed, it will look fantastic either way. When you purchase this beasty oil painting, you will receive an authentic Certificate of Authenticity (COA).
The story behind this American Bison painting begins in 2016. It is the year the American Bison became America’s official national mammal. It is also in the summer of that same year, we traveled to Rapid City, South Dakota, on a family vacation. While there, we made it a point to visit Custer State Park, where several herds of American bison roam freely. We just had to see these magnificent animals up close, and we were not disappointed.
Upon entering the park, a ranger told us to keep a safe distance and be conscious that this park is their home. We, humans, are the visitors, at least from the bison’s point of view. We drove through the park and were privileged to watch a herd of the largest mammal in North America crossing the road just a few feet ahead of our vehicle. They took my breath away. I wanted to exit the car and approach them, but that would not have been wise because Bison are massive wild animals that can become easily startled and behave aggressively toward what they perceive as an approaching predator.
The Bison fascinate me; they are truly among my favorite animals. I painted “The American Bison” several years after I returned home from that trip.
—Teresa Bernard
American Bison, Where Are They Today?
In the 1500s, an estimated 30 to 60 million bison were living in North America. Today, approximately 200,000 bison live in all 50 states, including Native American lands, wildlife refuges, national parks, and private lands. The top five states where bison roam are South Dakota (where the largest population is), Nebraska, Montana, Colorado, and Oklahoma. The largest bison herd is in Yellowstone National Park, where bison have continuously lived since prehistoric times. What makes Yellowstone’s bison herd so special is that they are pure-blood descendants of the early bison that grazed on America’s grassy plains.

“Bison are dangerous. Don’t get “up close” to them. We ran the Bill Cody Ranch for a while. One day someone drove up in a minivan with a broken-off buffalo horn sticking out of the side of the van. They had been up in Yellowstone Park, pulled off the side of the road to look at buffalo, and had opened the side door to take pictures. The flash set one of them off, and he charged the van. They managed to get the door closed just before he hit.” — @Paul47, Gab

The Texas Longhorn is a common breed of registered cattle in Texas. They get their name from the breed’s characteristic longhorns. Some sets of horns on these massive bovines can reach a span of 7 feet from tip to tip. You have to see one of these magnificent animals in person to appreciate those vast horns. I live in East Texas, and there are several longhorn ranches near our small homestead. I love driving past those places and seeing the longhorns grazing and resting in their pastures. They were the inspiration behind this painting of a Texas Longhorn sitting in a meadow.
—Teresa Bernard
Some Fun Facts About the Texas Longhorn
The Texas Longhorn is descended from the first cattle brought to America by Christopher Columbus, which bred with native cattle. The breed is made up of around 80 percent Spanish blood and 20 percent “mongrel” heritage.
Texas Longhorns come in all colors and patterns, and no two look exactly alike. Their coat pattern can be flamboyant and loud, while others are more subtle in color.
Both male and female Longhorns have horns, although they will vary in shape and length according to gender. Longer horns are more desirable. The longer the horns, the more valuable the cow or bull. Calves will begin to grow their horns by three weeks of age.
There are Texas Longhorn ranches all over America. Longhorns easily adapt to all temperatures, from hot to cold climates. This breed of cattle can thrive in terrains and climates where other breeds have difficulty living.

A still life oil painting with black jars. This canvas art is created using a restricted color scheme.
This is an original still life painting using a limited color palette of earth tones. About The King Protea Flower
The King Protea (pronounced “prō – dē – a”) became the national flower of South Africa in 1976. This plant, named after Proteus, a Greek god who could change his form at will, is one of the oldest flowering plants on earth, dating back 300 million years. Many varieties of protea can be found in South Africa, Australia, Asia, and parts of South America.
King Proteas, whose blossom resembles an artichoke, is the largest member of the Protea family. They can grow as large as 3-4 feet tall with flowers 8-10 inches in diameter. The blossom has a substantial white fuzzy center with pointy pink or white petals surrounding the center, along with leathery green petals that cradle the large, heavy blossom and a thick stem that supports it. King Proteas typically bloom during the winter and spring (June to October).

From my “Life in Texas Series.” This painting of a prickly pear cactus was a fun one to do. It brought back memories of my childhood. I grew up in west Texas where these flowering desert plants are commonplace. One doesn’t really give much thought to them unless you have a personal encounter with one. Ouch! Some varieties have really long thorns that can really hurt if you’re not careful.
