Snail #3 gives me a nostalgic feeling for Christmas. Perhaps it’s the evergreen branch this small mollusk is perching on. This painting is of a garden snail, a species of land snail (terrestrial gastropod mollusk) and is one of the most widely spread species of all terrestrial mollusks worldwide. It is another in a series of small paintings I did of this amazing little life form. (See other paintings in this common snail series below.)

A unique painting of a Monarch Butterfly. This colorful insect is perched high on a bright orange flower blossom. This artistic piece is signed by insect artist Teresa Bernard in the left corner of the canvas.

The small size of this artwork makes it perfect for rooms or areas where larger-scaled artwork would not fit. It measures only 6×6-inches and is hand-painted on gallery wrap stretched canvas. The Monarch Butterfly won’t need a frame because its composition extends around the edges of the canvas giving it a modern look. The artwork, whether framed or unframed, will enhance its appearance in your home, office, or any display space.

Artist Comments

This monarch butterfly painting is one of several compact-size paintings I’ve composed. I decided to do some smaller paintings to attract a broader range of buyers and collectors for my art pieces. So I purchased a supply of 6×6 inch stretched canvases and started composing paintings on them. I work on these small canvases alongside the larger paintings when I paint, working on both sized artworks during the same painting session.  I had no idea how much I would enjoy creating these smaller paintings until I started doing them.

Artist Comments

Sunsets in the tropics are truly something special. The combination of beautiful colors, the smell of the sea air, the feel of sand beneath your feet, and the sounds of the ocean splashing against the seashore. The rays of a setting sun have a way of making one reflect on the best things in life.

At one time or another, just about everyone has marveled at the beauty of a sunset (or sunrise) with the splendor of its red, yellow, and orange colors. It may not have been on a distant tropical island somewhere; it might have been right in your own backyard. Regardless, wherever you find yourself basking in the beauty of a sunset, it is the best place to be.

Artist Comments

I love flowers! I like painting them too, especially closeup and bathed in the warm sunlight. I’m always on the lookout for a beautiful flower to paint, and the King Protea flower is certainly one that inspires me. Its large, beautiful blossom made it a perfect subject for this flower painting.

About The King Protea Flower

  • The King Protea (pronounced “prō – dē – a”) became the national flower of South Africa in 1976. This plant, named after Proteus, a Greek god who could change his form at will, is one of the oldest flowering plants on earth, dating back 300 million years. Many varieties of protea can be found in South Africa, Australia, Asia, and parts of South America.
  • King Proteas, whose blossom resembles an artichoke, is the largest member of the Protea family. They can grow as large as 3-4 feet tall with flowers 8-10 inches in diameter. The blossom has a substantial white fuzzy center with pointy pink or white petals surrounding the center, along with leathery green petals that cradle the large, heavy blossom and a thick stem that supports it.

Title: Great-Grandma's Fine China Teacup
Size: 6″ w x 6″ h
Canvas Type: Gallery Wrap Stretched Canvas
Frame: Unframed; Ready to Hang
Signed: On the front
COA: Signed Certificate of Authenticity

A small still life painting of a fine china teacup and saucer, the kind that grandma or great-grandma might have used to sip their tea or coffee. The teacup and saucer are decorated in burgundy and gold. A burgundy silk flower is also sitting in the saucer next to the teacup. The background is dark, and the tabletop is gold. This delicate and colorful teacup painting would be ideal for adding a touch of class to a small kitchen, dining area, or living room. The painting is signed by artist Teresa Bernard in lower left corner.

Because of its small-scale size, this one-of-a-kind painting is ideal for small rooms or areas where space is limited. It is 6×6-inches in size and was hand-painted on gallery wrap stretched canvas. The composition of Great-Grandma’s Fine China Teacup spreads out around the edges of the canvas, making it fit in with any modern decor of your home or office. It can also be framed if desired.

The actual canvas art does not have the copyright watermark ©️ teresabernardart.com.

Artist Comments

I named this painting Great-Grandma’s Fine China Teacup because, in this day and age of Starbucks, paper cups, and travel mugs, the art of drinking coffee or hot tea from fine china is quickly becoming a thing of the past for a great many Americans. Well, at least that is my perspective.

Here is a case in point. I read once about a young bride-to-be preparing for her upcoming wedding and how her mother coerced her into adding a set of fine china to her bridal registry. The young woman felt it would be ludicrous to do so as the china set would never get used except for holidays and perhaps rarely even then.

For many Americans, I suppose there is no longer a need for the loving memories that come from pulling out the fine china and using it for special occasions as our great-grandmothers did; or is there? And I guess it’s been forgotten that hot beverages taste much better when served in a fine china cup. Not to mention that teacups are pretty and dainty, which helps to make a special occasion that much more special.

So, what are you waiting for? Bring out your great-grandma’s (or grandma’s) fine china and put it to use today. You’re not getting any younger.

Artist Comments

This painting’s composition is a close-up of the side of a garden cottage. I thought it would be interesting to crop out as much of the original scenery as possible so that the focus would be solely on a few elements—the window, siding, picket fence, and some flowers. This turned out really well. I’ve used this method before. Below are the other paintings in which I used a tight crop to achieve the desired effect.

Artist Comments

This insect painting is the second art piece in the Ladybug Series. I named it “Almost Perfect Camouflage” because the red color of the ladybug blends in so well with the flower it sits on. A natural predator would have to look very close to see it.

Where did they get their name? Are all ladybugs female? What do you call a ladybug that is a male? How can you tell them apart? All great questions!

Ladybug is the common name for Coccinellidae, a Latin word that means scarlet. It is also the American name for the insect known as the “lady beetle” or “ladybird beetle” in Europe. Whether you call them ladybug, ladybird, or lady beetle, the name has its origins in an old legend from Europe during the Middle Ages.

The Legend of the Ladybug

Legend has it that pests were destroying the Europeans’ crops, so Catholic farmers began praying to the Blessed Lady (the Virgin Mary) for help. Soon afterward, they noticed tiny black and red beetles in their fields eating the unwanted pests. Their crops were miraculously spared of any damage from the infestation. The farmers attributed their good fortune to the tiny insects called “the beetles of our Lady.” The red color of the beetle represents Mary’s cloak, and the black spots her sorrows. Eventually, they came to be known as ladybugs.

Ladybugs come in both male and female varieties, and both sexes are called the same thing… “ladybugs.” It is hard to distinguish male from female ladybugs with the naked eye, although females are larger than males. And that is hard to determine unless they are next to each other.
