Artist Comments

The east Texas moon is the inspiration behind Full Moon Rising. My favorite time to take a walk is in the late evening before turning in for the night. On a cloudless or nearly cloudless night, I love looking up into the night sky and seeing the stars and moon. I especially love it when the moon shines so brightly that it lights up the night and makes it appear almost like day! This is just one of the many “bennies” of country living.

The Far Side of the Moon

FYI…Did you know the common belief the moon has a dark side is a myth? The truth is both sides of the Moon see the same amount of sunlight.

The Moon makes a full rotation on its axis approximately once every 27 days. This is also approximately the same amount of time it takes the Moon to orbit the Earth, which means the same side is always facing the Earth. Astronomers refer to this as “synchronous rotation.”

Only about 59% of the moon is ever visible to Earth over the course of an orbit. The rest of the 41% — the part we call “dark” — is never visible from Earth. The “far side” of the Moon has only been seen by the human eye from a spacecraft.

An original oil painting featuring a sunset of vibrant colors in a tropical setting. Palm trees are in silhouette against a sky of deep blue, orange, and yellow. Artist Comments

Sunsets in the tropics are truly something special. The combination of beautiful colors, the smell of the sea air, the feel of sand beneath your feet, and the sounds of the ocean splashing against the seashore. The rays of a setting sun have a way of making one reflect on the best things in life.

At one time or another, just about everyone has marveled at the beauty of a sunset (or sunrise) with the splendor of its red, yellow, and orange colors. It may not have been on a distant tropical island somewhere; it might have been right in your own backyard. Regardless, wherever you find yourself basking in the beauty of a sunset, it is the best place to be.

A vibrant one-of-a-kind painting of a bright orange moon in the night sky with two egrets in silhouette. One egret is perched atop a tree in silhouette, while the other is in flight. A starry sky and a blue glow from Earth’s atmosphere can be seen behind the full moon.

Fly Me to The Moon is a 9×12-inch canvas board artwork that was painstakingly painted and hand-signed by space artist Teresa Bernard in the lower left-hand corner. Before hanging this artwork on the wall, it is best to frame it.

Artist Comments

The most eye-catching feature of this painting is that big orange moon in the night sky with a silhouetted egret. Looking at it, one can easily imagine what it would be like to “fly away” to Earth’s only satellite.

The night sky is one of my favorite things. I love looking up at it to see the vastness of outer space, the faraway planets, the milky way along with all the stars and constellations, and of course, Earth’s moon in whichever stage it happens to be in at the time. I especially love seeing our moon shining so brightly it makes the night look like it’s daytime!

A massive lightning bolt streaks from the sky, spreads out, and strikes the ground in this colorful sunset painting. The clouds are dark and tempestuous, creating a menacing and gloomy sky. This stormy weather artwork is one-of- a-kind and signed in the bottom left corner by oil painting artist Teresa Bernard.

Artist Comments

Lightning Strikes painting is inspired my fascination for the weather. I love standing on my porch watching a storm roll in. I love watching lightning bolts flash across the sky. And I especially love the rainbow that appears after the storm, because it reminds me of God’s promise from long ago. See Genesis 9:12-16 (NASB) below.

12 God said, “This is the sign of the covenant which I am making between Me and you and every living creature that is with you, for all future generations;
13 I have set My rainbow in the cloud, and it shall serve as a sign of a covenant between Me and the earth.
14 It shall come about, when I make a cloud appear over the earth, that the rainbow will be seen in the cloud,
15 and I will remember My covenant, which is between Me and you and every living creature of all flesh; and never again shall the water become a flood to destroy all flesh.
16 When the rainbow is in the cloud, then I will look at it, to remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is on the earth.”

Weather is a powerful, tremendous force, and when unleashed it can be very destructive. Do I enjoy the destruction that sometimes happens from all that power? No way, no how. But because of God’s covenant promise, the storm gives me a sensation that He is nearby and watching over me. I sense His presence and I am not afraid.

Artist Comments

Some of the most gorgeous sunsets in the world happen right here in Texas, but of course, I might be just a tad bit biased. I love the bright, colorful sunsets that I get to enjoy almost every evening. And I also love the idea of cowboys, horses, and the Old West.

This painting with a cowboy gazing off into the sunset reminds me of my childhood when pretty much all you could watch on TV were westerns. It was a fantasy life all of us kids dreamed about living someday. We would pretend to be cowboys and rode imaginary horses for hours until mom called us in for supper.

When my husband decided it was time to retire from the Navy and settle down to live life as civilians, we bought some land and built a small ranch in East Texas with a couple of horses, a donkey, and a few heads of cattle. It was our dream to live the cowboy way of life.

Artist Comments

This camelthorn trees painting was a fun one to do. At first, it appears to be a bit surreal; not the art genre that I do. I’m a realist painter, which means I try to paint things as they appear. This composition is a landscape I painted from an actual photograph of the Namib-Naukluft National Park, Africa. It depicts camelthorn trees with a dune rising in the background. The dune is bathed in orange by the effects of a rising sun. The trees are in shadow from another nearby dune. Some believe these trees have been dead for hundreds of years and that their failure to decompose is because the desert is so arid.

Artist Comments

This Calvary sunset painting is a religious-themed landscape painting portraying the cross in silhouette against a colorful evening sky. One should not consider this painting as a literal representation of the crucifixion of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Instead, it depicts that moment in time just after the disciples took His lifeless body down from the cross.

The Holy Bible tells us about this momentous historical event throughout its pages. From Scripture, we learn that Jesus Christ endured the crucifixion from approximately 9 AM until 3 PM and that His dead body was removed from the cross just before sundown.

The four New Testament Gospels also describe a supernatural phenomenon that occurred at the moment of His death.

What we Learn from the Four Gospels

    • Matthew mentions an earthquake, the opening of the saints’ tombs in the vicinity, and the resurrected saints making an appearance in Jerusalem.
    • Mark reveals that darkness spread throughout the land, and the temple veil was ripped in two.
    • Luke tells us Jesus was crucified with criminals and that the Roman soldiers mocked Him and cast lots for His clothing.
    • John describes the soldiers twisting a crown of thorns together and putting it on Jesus’ head; and that Jesus was crucified at Golgotha, which means the place of the Skull.
