Title: Bow of the Boat
Size: 18″ w x 18″ h
Canvas Type: Gallery Wrap Stretched Canvas
Frame: Unframed; Ready to Hang
Signed: On the front
COA: Signed Certificate of Authenticity

A wooden boat painting in a cropped composition of the boat’s bow. This large painting is simple and minimalist in design.

The painting depicts a nautical scene featuring a wooden boat, presented in such a way that the viewer is only privy to the vessel’s bow and the surrounding water. It showcases a dramatic interplay of light and shadow, alongside a juxtaposition of warm and cool tones. The sun’s warmth is palpable as it illuminates the boat’s bow, creating a stark shadow on the cool water beneath. Hand-painted and signed by marine artist Teresa Bernard in the lower left side.

Bow of The Boat is a unique oil painting that can be displayed without the need of a frame. It is meticulously hand-painted on artist-grade gallery wrap stretched canvas which allows the composition to extend around the sides of the canvas. However, if you prefer to have it framed, it will look spectacular! A custom Certificate of Authenticity (COA) accompanies the piece.

The copyright watermark ©️ teresabernardart.com is not on the actual canvas artwork.

Artist Comments

In a world dominated by modern materials, a traditional wooden boat stands as a testament to craftsmanship and timelessness.

Artists often draw inspiration from their peers, admiring and emulating their work. The inspiration for Bow of the Boat came from an art teacher years ago. He enjoyed doing paintings of boats. In several of his works, he would focus on a particular section of the boat by cropping the rest, a technique I have adopted in this piece.

Artist Comments

I love lighthouses! While living on the east coast, I had the opportunity to visit several of them on the shores of the Outer Banks. I also enjoy painting them and have done so numerous times throughout my fine art career. Several of those paintings were of lighthouses I had visited while living nearby. There are, however, many others in this big world that I have yet to visit and hope to do so someday. One such lighthouse is the Rubjerg Knude Lighthouse. It is the subject of this painting.

More about Rubjerg Knude Lighthouse

On the sand dunes of Denmark’s North Sea coast sits a lonely watchtower known as Rubjerg Knude Lighthouse. Its beacon once stood watch, guiding ships and other watercraft through dangerous waters. Today, however, it is in danger of falling into the sea. Shifting sands and coastal erosion are major issues in the area. The coast is eroding at a rate of 4.9 feet per year.

The lighthouse ceased operating in 1968. Its buildings were then used as a museum and coffee shop for a number of years before being abandoned due to shifting sands. The small buildings were later demolished after being severely damaged by the sand pressure.

At the current rate of erosion, the tower would have fallen into the sea by 2023. However, in 2019, a preservation group set about relocating it, and the 75ft-tall, 720-ton lighthouse was moved 230 feet inland on specially built rails. The relocation is expected to ensure the lighthouse’s survival until at least 2060.

An oil painting depicting the modern-day Sea of Galilee and its surroundings, a site revered in Christians as the location where Jesus performed miracles, including walking on water.

A one-of-its-kind oil painting of the modern-day Sea of Galilee and its environs. In the foreground, the shore of Capernaum is painted in a painterly style with brown, red, and green paints.

Artist Comments

The Sea of Galilee is a large freshwater lake located in northeast Israel, between the Golan Heights and the Galilee region. The Jordan River is its primary source of water. The lake is approximately 13 miles long and 8 miles wide.

My love of God’s word and Bible readings about Jesus inspired this painting of the famous Sea of Galilee. Israel is very important to me because it is home to God’s chosen people. I’ve never been to Israel, but it’s somewhere I’d like to visit someday. This painting was composed using a reference photo from the “Pictorial Library of Bible Lands.” The photographer, Todd Bolen, graciously permitted me to use his photographs for any of my Bible land paintings.

According to Matthew 4:13-22, this historic biblical location is where Jesus began His ministry and called His first disciples. This passage tells us Jesus left Nazareth and went to Capernaum. While walking along the Sea of Galilee, He called the first four of His disciples Simon (also called Peter), Andrew, James, and John.

Permission to use the photo as a painting source is courtesy of www.BiblePlaces.com.

“I really like your paintings–the portrait of your husband is very unusual in composition and the backlighting–wish I could see it in real life. Nautical-themed art with boat fenders. This painting is ideal for someone who loves being out on or near the water.

An art piece with a nautical theme that includes fishing boat fenders, chains, and pier columns. This artistic work would be an excellent gift for someone in your life who enjoys the water, fishing, or boating. It would make a wonderful addition to the nautical-themed decor in your house, office, man cave, or fishing cabin.

Teresa Bernard, a realistic artist, painstakingly hand-painted and signed this sturdy 9×12-inch canvas board artwork in lower left corner. Artist Comments

Sometimes I like to give myself a challenge when choosing a subject matter for my paintings. I found these fishing boat fenders tied to the pillar of a fishing pier very interesting because of all the different textures (wood pier, rusty chains, and rubbery boat fenders) present. I thought they would make an interesting challenge trying to paint all that texture. One does get a sense of texture from the detail in this artwork.

What are boat fenders?

A boat fender is a type of bumper or cushioned buffer used to prevent a boat or other watercraft from bumping into a dock, pier, or another boat causing damage to its hull. They are often constructed of rubber, foam, or plastic, and they come in various shapes and sizes depending on their use.

Artist Comments

In the summer of 1999, my husband Robert and I navigated his 36-foot sailboat along the Intracoastal Waterway (ICW) from Florida to Virginia. Robert, a military serviceman, was transferring from Naval Air Station Jacksonville to Naval Station Norfolk. The journey presented us with many fascinating sights along the waterway, offering ample chances to capture photographs for my future paintings. “Along The ICW,” depicting a stranded shrimp boat, was inspired by a photo I snapped on that voyage.

About The ICW

The Intracoastal Waterway is a 3,000-mile waterway network comprising inland rivers, channels, and canals along the eastern and southeastern coasts of the United States. It is split into the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway and the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway. The waterway includes both man-made canals and natural water bodies like inlets, saltwater rivers, bays, and sounds.

The ICW stretches from Boston, MA, down the Atlantic Seaboard, around Florida’s southern tip, and along the Gulf Coast to Brownsville, TX. Its main function is to offer a secure and navigable route for light commercial and personal pleasure vessels, providing a safer alternative to the perils of open sea travel.

The Currituck Beach Lighthouse on North Carolina’s Outer Banks is depicted in this marine painting.

A one-of-a-kind painting of the Currituck Beach Lighthouse on North Carolina’s Outer Banks. The lighthouse is reminiscent of old lighthouses, with its red brick exterior and tower extending up above the trees into the blue sky above. This artwork, signed in the lower left-hand side by realism artist Teresa Bernard, is the perfect piece for anyone who loves lighthouses.

Beach Lighthouse is a hand-painted marine painting on a traditional stretched canvas, with the side-stapled edges left unpainted or raw. This painting should be framed before it is displayed. Artist Comments

One summer, my husband, Robert, and I loaded up the kids and headed off for an adventure on the Outer Banks to discover the lighthouses we’d heard so much about. We were living in Virginia at the time, while Robert was serving in the military and was only two hours away from the OBX (Outer Banks). Currituck Lighthouse was our first stop and the favorite of all the lighthouses we visited that fun-filled weekend. We were excited to discover that visitors can climb its 220 steps to the top and look at the spectacular view. We’ve been back to this lighthouse several times since that first trip, and we always enjoy seeing it again. This painting of the Currituck Beach Lighthouse depicts the fun time we had on that trip.

More About the Lighthouse

Currituck Beach Lighthouse is located at Whale Head Bay in Corolla, NC on the northern end of the “Outer Banks.” Its distinct unpainted natural red brick appearance contrasts with fellow lighthouses along the North Carolina coast, which are painted in striking black and white. The lighthouse was constructed in 1875 and is still being used today to light the dark stretches of the southern Atlantic coastline. Annually the lighthouse welcomes an average of 185,000 visitors.

An original oil painting of Kokomo Beach, a fictional romantic island getaway sung about by The Beach Boys.

A small canvas painting of Kokomo Beach, a fictitious romantic tropical retreat. Teresa Bernard, a fine artist who specializes in original oil paintings, has hand signed the piece in the lower left side.

Marine life is a broad topic. This is the section where I post paintings that have anything to do with large bodies of water. Paintings of lighthouses, boats, ocean-going vessels, lakes, rivers, and the beach, among others, can be found here. It’s not restricted to seascapes, or ocean waves. It is for any piece of art with a marine or nautical theme.

Paintings with marine or nautical themes are soothing, making them ideal for a beach house, bedroom, living room, or pretty much anywhere you want to unwind. They’d also make great gifts for someone who loves the water.

Artist Comments

Artists frequently draw inspiration from their surroundings. We live out in the country. One of our neighbors lives down the road and around the corner from us. He has a large pond near the road with a small dock and a rowboat tied to it. Across from him is another neighbor who also has a pond near the road. It’s a smaller pond with lily pads. We pass by these two ponds almost every day on our way to and from our place to the nearby towns. The inspiration for this painting came from our neighbor’s ponds.

A brilliant sunset in a tropical setting is depicted in this canvas painting. The warm colors make this painting a perfect addition to any coastal-themed room.

An original oil painting featuring a sunset of vibrant colors in a tropical setting. Palm trees are in silhouette against a sky of deep blue, orange, and yellow. The setting sun hovers just above the lagoon, illuminating the water. The artist Teresa Bernard has signed this oil painting in the lower left.

This small 6×6-inch tropical sunset painting is hand-painted on gallery wrap stretched canvas. Its small size makes it ideal for small spaces or areas where space is limited. It doesn’t require a frame before display because the composition stretches around the sides of the canvas giving it a modern look. However, if you prefer to have it mounted in a frame, Sunset in the Tropics will look great in your home or office, or any place it is put on display. Sunsets in the tropics are truly something special. The combination of beautiful colors, the smell of the sea air, the feel of sand beneath your feet, and the sounds of the ocean splashing against the seashore. The rays of a setting sun have a way of making one reflect on the best things in life.

At one time or another, just about everyone has marveled at the beauty of a sunset (or sunrise) with the splendor of its red, yellow, and orange colors. It may not have been on a distant tropical island somewhere; it might have been right in your own backyard. Regardless, wherever you find yourself basking in the beauty of a sunset, it is the best place to be.
