Artist Comments

This painting is of a vintage Ford V8, the same type of car that helped make “Bonnie and Clyde” famous in the early 1930s. Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow were notorious fugitives who traveled throughout the central states of North America with their gang during the Great Depression, robbing and murdering wherever they went. The couple’s crime spree ended in their car when they were ambushed by Texas lawmen at a roadblock and then shot to death when 100 armor-piercing bullets riddled the vehicle. Bonnie and Clyde were buried in separate cemeteries in Dallas, TX. Clyde’s gravestone reads, “Gone but not forgotten.”

Today the actual bullet-riddled death car driven by the infamous couple is on display at Whiskey Pete’s Resort and Casino in Primm, Nevada. There is no admission charge to see the exhibit. For more information about the actual car, Bonnie and Clyde met their demise in, visit Roads & Rides. See additional information at Roadside America.

Artist Comments

Space art has become my favorite genre of creative expression because it allows my imagination to travel to off-world locations. However, because I am a realism artist, I want to keep my art as realistic as possible. In my efforts to accomplish realistic looking space paintings, I often study NASA images and photos of galaxies, planets, stars, and suns. I also look up at the night sky to observe the Moon, stars and constellations.

In this space painting an asteroid is heading right for an Earth-like planet on a collision course.

A Few Things About Asteroids

  • Asteroids are rocks that orbit the sun within our solar system.
  • They’re neither planets nor comets.
  • They don’t have any atmosphere.
  • Asteroids are made up of rocky, metallic, or icy substances.
  • They range in size and shape from 1-meter rocks to 1000-kilometer in diameter, roughly the size of a dwarf planet.

Artist Comments

It’s been a long, scorching summer, with temperatures often exceeding 100 degrees. Staying indoors where the A/C is running is the best way to beat the heat. However, sometimes I just had to get outside for a while and usually I could be found in the shade of the large tree next to our house. What do I notice when glancing up while standing in that shade? I saw branches stretching skyward filled with green leaves and the sky peaking between them.

A Favorite Poem

Trees
by Joyce Kilmer 1886 – 1918

I think that I shall never see
A poem lovely as a tree.

A tree whose hungry mouth is prest
Against the earth’s sweet flowing breast;

A tree that looks at God all day,
And lifts her leafy arms to pray;

A tree that may in summer wear
A nest of robins in her hair;

Upon whose bosom snow has lain;
Who intimately lives with rain.

Poems are made by fools like me,
But only God can make a tree.

This poem is in the public domain.

This painting captures the simplicity and warmth of country life in a bygone era. The farmhouse is old, neglected, and worn, but the overgrown lawn with a few white wildflowers shows that there is still life here.

Everyone has their own idea of what is beautiful. For some, it’s something that’s clean and polished. For others, it’s something that’s rough and raw. This artwork is for those who love the beauty of something that’s worn and well-loved. This farmhouse painting will give your home a rustic feel.

Artist Comments

I love all flowers; however, the sunflower is one of my favorites. I love the bright sunshine-yellow petals and huge blossoms that resemble the sun. Most sunflower paintings are composed of the front of the blossom. However, the backsides of some flowers are just as beautiful, and the sunflower is certainly one.

About Sunflowers

    • The sunflower is a plant that is native to North America. Later it was introduced to Mexico and Peru. They can grow up to 6 feet tall and prefer dry, sunny places where their roots can dig deep into the soil.
    • When the plant is in the bud stage, it will face the sun following its movement across the sky from horizon to horizon. This movement allows it to get the maximum amount of the sun’s rays. After the flower has fully opened into the radiance of yellow petals, it will face only east. No one knows why it does this. One theory is it is possibly a defensive response to prevent the sun from scalding the seed pod during hot summer days.
    • The sunflower is often equated as a symbol of spiritual faith, worship, adoration, loyalty, and longevity, perhaps because it always seeks the “Light.”
