About This Painting

Muted greens and misty blues sweep across the canvas, revealing a boundless forest of pines that seem to breathe in stillness.

A dense forest of pine trees fills the canvas from edge to edge in this painting. Vertical trunks vary in subtle tone and thickness, with dark green needles clustered in natural rhythm across the upper portions. Wisps of fog drift between the trees, partially obscuring their bases and creating atmospheric layers that dissolve softly into the distance. Toward the top of the painting, the fog thins and reveals a serene sky washed in pale blue. Restrained yet purposeful brushwork defines the scene—fine strokes sculpt each tree with gentle texture, while softer blends create the illusion of depth and quiet motion. The artwork is signed by the artist Teresa Bernard in the lower left corner.

Artist Reflections

I love trees! They enrich our world in so many ways—offering shade, cleaner air, and a quiet sense of renewal. But what draws me to them most is their calming presence and natural beauty. Whether standing alone or gathered in a forest, trees seem to carry a rhythm all their own. I often think of them as nature’s silent musicians, swaying gently to a song we can feel more than hear. Capturing that stillness and harmony on canvas is something I truly enjoy.

—Teresa Bernard, oil painter

A Favorite Poem

This poem echoes the spirit of Song of the Trees—a quiet tribute to nature’s enduring presence.

Song of the Trees
by Mary Colborne-Veel

We are the Trees.
Our dark and leafy glade
Bands the bright earth with softer mysteries.
Beneath us changed and tamed the seasons run:
In burning zones, we build against the sun
Long centuries of shade.

We are the Trees,
Who grow for man’s desire,
Heat in our faithful hearts, and fruits that please.
Dwelling beneath our tents, he lightly gains
The few sufficiencies his life attains—
Shelter, and food, and fire.

We are the Trees
That by great waters stand,
By rills that murmur to our murmuring bees.
And where, in tracts all desolate and waste,
The palm-foot stays, man follows on, to taste
Springs in the desert sand.

We are the Trees
Who travel where he goes
Over the vast, inhuman, wandering seas.
His tutors we, in that adventure brave—
He launched with us upon the untried wave,
And now its mastery knows.

We are the Trees
Who bear him company
In life and death. His happy sylvan ease
He wins through us; through us, his cities spread
That like a forest guard his unfenced head
’Gainst storm and bitter sky.

We are the Trees.
On us the dying rest
Their strange, sad eyes, in farewell messages.
And we, his comrades still, since earth began,
Wave mournful boughs above the grave of man,
And coffin his cold breast.

Artist Reflections

I’ve always been a huge fan of the United States Space Program—both its civilian pursuits and military achievements. This painting is my personal tribute to the brave souls who make space exploration possible, from the pioneers who dare to dream big, to the engineers who turn dreams into reality, to the astronauts who carry our dreams beyond Earth. Their work inspires me deeply.

As someone who loves discovering new places, the idea of journeying into outer space feels like the ultimate adventure. Painting this work allowed me to celebrate that spirit of exploration and reflect on our innate desire to reach beyond the horizon.

—Teresa Bernard, oil painter

About the U.S. Space Shuttle

The Space Shuttle is a retired spacecraft system operated by NASA from 1981 to 2011 as part of the United States Space Shuttle program. It was intended to be a partially reusable spacecraft that would be launched like a rocket and landed on a runway like a glider. The space shuttle launched astronauts and cargo into space and returned them safely.

The United States Space Program has constructed six space shuttles since it began. The initial shuttle, Enterprise, served as a prototype and was transported on its inaugural journey by a Boeing 747, although it never reached space. The remaining shuttles, Challenger, Columbia, Discovery, Atlantis, and Endeavour, all completed space missions.

Each shuttle carries a legacy of courage and ingenuity—a testament to the American spirit of reaching higher and daring greatly. Though now retired and resting in museums, they continue to spark the imagination, reminding us that the adventure isn’t over—only waiting for its next chapter. Their story mirrors the heart behind my painting: bold dreams, quiet determination, and a shared belief that we can rise above the ordinary and reach for something greater.

About This Painting

Boat fenders rest on aged dock pilings, their surfaces marked by years of exposure. Soft light filters across timber and chain, revealing the quiet geometry of this weatherworn corner.

A quiet maritime vignette unfolds at the edge of a pier, where aged timber pilings rise, their surfaces dulled by years of sun and tide. Hanging from them are boat fenders, each one bearing the marks of wear—scuffed textures and timeworn surfaces. A rusted chain loops between pilings, its sag and patina adding depth to the scene. The light falls softly across the composition, creating gentle contrasts and a palette of deep umber, burnt orange, earthy ochre, and ruddy sienna. In the lower left corner, the painting bears the signature of Teresa Bernard, affirming both the craftsmanship and identity of the artist.

“Boat Fenders” is an original oil painting created on a durable 9×12-inch canvas board — chosen for its ability to hold fine detail and maintain structural integrity over time. The artwork arrives unframed, making it ideal for tailoring to your own décor and personal style. A customized Certificate of Authenticity accompanies the piece, hand-signed by Teresa and stamped with her personal embossed seal, certifying provenance and originality.

Offering more than nautical charm, “Boat Fenders” delivers atmosphere, craftsmanship, and emotional resonance. Artist Reflections

Sometimes I enjoy giving myself a challenge when selecting a subject matter for my paintings — something that nudges me to stretch my skills and lean into the details. Boat Fenders began that way. While walking near a fishing pier, I was drawn to the boat fenders hanging from a weathered pillar. It wasn’t just their placement that caught my eye, but the contrast of textures gathered in one quiet spot: the aged wood of the pier, the corroded metal of the chains, and the smooth, rubbery surface of the fenders themselves. I saw potential in capturing each surface authentically, and that challenge became the heart of the composition. Texture plays a quiet but powerful role here, and I worked deliberately to ensure those tactile qualities come through in the final piece — inviting the viewer to almost feel the scene, not just see it.

—Teresa Bernard, oil painter

What are boat fenders?

A boat fender is a type of bumper or cushioned buffer used to protect a boat’s hull. It keeps the vessel from striking a dock, pier, or another boat. This simple device helps prevent scrapes and impact damage. Fenders are usually made of rubber, foam, or plastic. They come in different shapes and sizes to suit various boating needs.

Artist Reflections

One summer, my husband Robert and I loaded up the kids and headed off for an adventure on the Outer Banks (OBX) to discover the lighthouses we’d heard so much about. We were living in Virginia at the time, while Robert was serving in the military and was stationed just two hours away from the OBX.

Currituck Beach Lighthouse was our first stop and the favorite of all the lighthouses we visited that fun-filled weekend. We were thrilled to discover we could climb the 220 steps to take in the breathtaking view from the top. We’ve been back to this lighthouse several times since that first trip, and we always enjoy seeing it again. This painting is a personal tribute to that unforgettable journey and the warm memories it left behind.

Artist Reflections

A large white dog stands at the heart of this painting—possibly a Great Pyrenees, though I didn’t set out to depict a specific breed. Still, I can’t help but think of Lobo, our Pyrenees mix, who wandered up to our door one day and decided to stay. Living out in the country, we often find strays at our doorstep—dogs looking for shelter, food, or maybe just a little kindness. We never know where they come from, but we always try to help. Sometimes we’re able to reunite them with their owners. Other times, they become part of our family.

The dog in this painting isn’t Lobo, but something in its posture, its coat, its quiet presence reminds me of him. That kind of memory tends to find its way into the brushwork, whether I plan for it or not.

Artist Reflections

Sometimes, the quietest compositions speak the loudest. Hilltops is one of those paintings where less truly becomes more. I was drawn to the idea of creating a landscape that felt open and unburdened — a place where the eye can rest and the mind can wander. There’s something deeply calming about a scene that isn’t crowded with detail, where the land rolls gently and the sky stretches wide.

I enjoy painting these minimalist pieces from time to time because they offer a different kind of storytelling. They don’t tell you everything — instead, they invite you to imagine what lies just beyond the next ridge. Is it a grove of trees? A quiet herd of cattle? Maybe a deer slipping through the brush or a flock of sheep grazing in the distance? That mystery is part of the charm.

My hope is that this painting gives viewers a moment of stillness — and maybe even a little spark of wonder.

About This Painting

With trumpet-shaped grace and a message of purity, the lilies stand composed and timeless.

Two sculpted calla lilies rise with serene elegance against a soft sky-blue background, their white petals unfolding in graceful curves like porcelain trumpets. Each bloom reveals a golden yellow spadix that glows warmly within its floral embrace, while a single verdant leaf adds depth and balance to the scene. Captured in profile, the composition invites reflection and calm, celebrating the purity of nature in a quiet, contemporary style.

“White Calla Lilies on Blue” is part of a theme that honors the delicate symbolism and beauty of flowering plants. Measuring 6 inches wide by 8 inches high, with a depth of 1.5 inches, this representational oil painting is rendered on gallery-wrapped canvas, with the image extending around the edges for a seamless presentation. It arrives unframed, allowing collectors to tailor its display to their own space. The artwork is hand-signed on the front and includes a Certificate of Authenticity, custom-designed and embossed with the artist’s personal seal to confirm its originality and provenance.

This one-of-a-kind floral painting brings understated charm and timeless tranquility to any setting. Whether hung solo or as part of a botanical grouping, White Calla Lilies on Blue offers a refined sense of quiet beauty. It’s more than just a depiction of lilies—it’s an invitation to slow down, breathe deeply, and connect with nature’s serene spirit.

Artist Reflections

I struggled to come up with a title for this painting. Every artist in the world seems to call their calla lily paintings by the same name. So, I kept looking for title ideas and ended up at the website of Georgia O’Keeffe, an American artist whose artworks have influenced me.  She created several calla lily paintings, one of which she titled ‘Two Calla Lilies on Pink.’ Her title became an inspiration for mine: ‘White Calla Lilies on Blue.’

The calla lily has always been one of my favorite flowers. I just love its beauty. It gets its name from the Greek word for “beautiful.” The calla lily has a bloom that resembles a trumpet. Did you know the most popular color of calla lily is white? The white calla lily symbolizes purity and innocence. It is also associated with faithfulness and holiness, which is a reason why you often see them used at Easter services and weddings.

Artist Reflections

‘White Poppies in a Vase’ came from my love of classic floral compositions and a desire to keep things simple, yet elegant. I chose white poppies specifically for their delicate petals and golden centers. They have a quiet beauty that doesn’t compete for attention but still draws you in. There’s something very calming about them, and I wanted that feeling to come through in the painting.

The vase is intentionally understated. I didn’t want anything ornate—just a soft pastel blue with a clean shape that complements the flowers without stealing the spotlight. It’s the kind of arrangement you might find in a quiet corner of a country home or on a bedside table, and I loved the idea of capturing that kind of serenity on canvas.

To me, this painting is about grace in simplicity. It doesn’t need to be dramatic to be beautiful—it just needed to be honest and inviting.

Artist Reflections

Swimming with sharks? Not exactly my idea of a relaxing afternoon—but that’s the kind of moment I wanted to capture. This painting puts you just beneath a formation of hammerhead sharks, close enough to feel their presence and know you’re not in charge down there. There’s a mix of awe and unease—majestic creatures drifting overhead, and you’re exposed in their world. Everything is bathed in that unmistakable aquamarine hue that comes from the ocean water all around, and I leaned into that with a monochromatic palette to reflect that natural filter and keep the focus on mood and movement.

—Teresa Bernard, oil painter

What is a Monochromatic Painting?

A monochromatic painting uses just one color—exploring its shades, tints, and tones to create depth and detail. Without the distraction of multiple hues, this approach highlights how light and value shape the subject. Even small shifts in saturation or intensity can add contrast, movement, and mood. It’s a simple technique, but when done well, it reveals surprising complexity and visual richness.
