Artist Reflections

This painting was a joy to bring to life—not just for the gentle mood it carries, but because the young girl at its center has a personal connection to me. She’s the granddaughter of a friend I’ve known since high school, and with permission, I used a photo of her as reference. That familiarity gave the process an added layer of warmth—it felt like I was painting someone I already knew in spirit.

While the girl’s pose and expression come directly from the photo, I introduced lily pads, fish, and cattails to breathe life into the pond. These details weren’t just decorative—they brought movement, harmony, and a sense of quiet story to the scene. They helped transform a simple moment into something deeper and more inviting, one that encourages viewers to linger and connect.

About This Painting

Set against muted green tones, a flamingo’s warm orange plumage and lowered posture guide the eye to the chick beneath her wing.

A vivid orange flamingo is nestled in profile, her curved neck forming a gentle arc above a downy gray chick tucked beneath her wing. The chick’s tiny beak and head peek out from soft feathers, its body completely concealed by the mother’s protective embrace. Fine brushwork brings out subtle shifts in tone and texture across the flamingo’s feathers. A rich mottled green background suggests foliage, and its cooler tones contrast with the birds’ warm hues, allowing them to take visual precedence. Signed by the artist Teresa Bernard in the lower right corner, the mark ensures originality and authorship.

Handcrafted in oil on gallery-wrapped canvas, the painting measures 12″ wide by 12″ high and 1.5″ deep. The canvas edges are painted for a clean, finished look whether framed or displayed as-is. Artist Reflections

I’ve wanted to paint a flamingo for a long time. Not because they’re trendy or exotic, but because their shape and color have always pulled me in—the vivid orange feathers, the long legs, and that graceful curve of the neck. But I didn’t want to paint just any flamingo. I waited until I found a moment that felt meaningful.

This one did. The adult bird is curved around her chick, wing lifted just enough to shelter it. That quiet gesture felt instinctive and tender—an expression of motherhood in its most natural form. It’s not dramatic, but it’s deeply felt. I wanted to capture that stillness, that connection, and let the composition speak for itself.

There’s something universal in the way animals care for their young. It’s simple, unspoken, and complete. That’s what I saw in this pose, and that’s what I tried to honor in the painting.

—Teresa Bernard, oil painter

About This Painting

This evocative composition invites viewers into a quiet rural setting, where a classic relic of the road rests beneath wide-open skies.

A once-proud 1934 Ford V8 sits quietly in the heart of a rural summer landscape. This model is similar to the one famously driven by Bonnie and Clyde, tying the scene to a storied moment in American history. Its weathered black finish is softened by sunlight and time. The paint has begun to peel, and the still posture suggests journeys long since past. Treelined hills embrace the car in a hush of green. Above, a wide blue sky stretches across the canvas, lending the scene a spacious calm. Nostalgia seeps from every brushstroke. The overall mood evokes serenity, memory, and a sense of forgotten adventure.

“Forgotten Roads of Bygone Days” is painted in oil on 24×18- inch gallery-wrapped canvas. The image extends around the edges for a clean frameless presentation and arrives unframed—perfect for tailoring to your personal style and space. Personally signed by the artist Teresa Bernard, the painting comes with a hand-signed Certificate of Authenticity stamped with her custom embossed seal.

Whether displayed in a home, office, or curated gallery, “Forgotten Roads of Bygone Days” makes a compelling statement. Artist Reflections

This painting features a vintage Ford V8, the same type of car that helped make Bonnie and Clyde infamous in the early 1930s. Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow were notorious fugitives who roamed the central states of North America during the Great Depression, robbing and killing alongside their gang. Their crime spree ended dramatically when Texas lawmen ambushed the couple in their car, unleashing more than 100 armor-piercing bullets. Both died instantly at the roadside.

Bonnie and Clyde were laid to rest in separate Dallas cemeteries. Clyde’s gravestone reads, “Gone but not forgotten.” Today, their actual bullet-riddled death car is on display at Whiskey Pete’s Resort and Casino in Primm, Nevada. To learn more about the car and its legacy, visit Roadside America.

I was inspired to paint this piece not only for its connection to American history, but also for what it symbolizes—the passage of time and the stories we leave behind. Bonnie and Clyde met their end in Texas, just as the painting’s quiet scene hints at the closing chapters of an era. The title, Forgotten Roads of Bygone Days, carries that sense of lingering memory—where history fades but never fully disappears.

About This Painting

Glowing like a celestial ember, an asteroid surges forward—its path lit by tension, scale, and solar fire.

Molten and fractured, the asteroid dominates the scene as it descends toward a distant, Earth-like planet. The backdrop reveals a sprawling starscape—pinpoints of light in varying sizes scattered across a velvety black sky. Cool tones dominate the planetary surface with hints of oceanic blue, swirling white cloud cover, and sunlit terrestrial beige. The asteroid’s jagged surface is scorched with deep ridges, pulsing in searing hues of orange and gold. Artist Reflections

Space has always intrigued me—not as a dreamscape, but as a place grounded in realism and vast possibility. That’s the energy I tap into when painting celestial scenes like Asteroid Collision Course.

I rely on science-based sources—such as NASA photography and authentic astrophotography—as reference points to ensure that what I create feels plausible, even at a dramatic scale. This observational approach helps me construct scenes that are informed by genuine cosmic phenomena, not imaginative reinterpretations.

This particular painting was driven by motion and impact. The asteroid isn’t meandering; it’s moving with purpose. That idea of speed and direction is something I carefully built into every detail—from placement and scale to lighting and trajectory.

Artist Reflections

Autumn has always felt like a gentle reward after our long, hot Texas summers. There’s something so comforting in the cooler air and the way the landscape shifts into rich color — scarlet reds, fiery oranges, and golden yellows that seem to glow from within. Just behind our home, a small forest of hardwood trees fills the meadow, and every fall they put on their show. Watching those trees transform never gets old; it’s a quiet ritual I look forward to year after year. This painting is a love letter to that season — to the way nature softens, deepens, and reminds us to pause and take it in.

A Tree Design
by Arna Bontemps 1902 – 1973

A tree is more than a shadow
Blurred against the sky,
More than ink spilled on the fringe
Of white clouds floating by.
>A tree is more than an April design
Or a blighted winter bough
Where love and music used to be.
>A tree is something in me,
Very still and lonely now.

Artist Reflections

It’s been a long, hot summer here in Texas, with temperatures often soaring past 100 degrees. Staying indoors with the air conditioner humming was the easiest way to escape the heat. However, sometimes I just had to get outside for a while—if only for a breath of fresh air and a moment of quiet. Usually, I could be found in the shade of the large tree next to our house.

There, in its cool shelter, I’d look up through the layers of green and watch the branches stretch skyward like open arms. Light would flicker through the canopy, and patches of blue peeked through the leaves like hidden windows to the sky and the Lord above. That upward view always struck me—peaceful, gentle, and grounding. It became the inspiration behind this painting.

A Favorite Poem

A beloved classic poem that echoes the spirit of this painting:

Trees
by Joyce Kilmer 1886 – 1918

I think that I shall never see
A poem lovely as a tree.

A tree whose hungry mouth is prest
Against the earth’s sweet flowing breast;

A tree that looks at God all day,
And lifts her leafy arms to pray;

A tree that may in summer wear
A nest of robins in her hair;

Upon whose bosom snow has lain;
Who intimately lives with rain.

Poems are made by fools like me,
But only God can make a tree.

Artist Reflections

There’s something about an old farmhouse that feels familiar—like a memory you didn’t know you had. ‘Raggedy ol’ Farmhouse’ isn’t a tribute to grandeur or perfection; it’s a love letter to things that have endured. Its quiet resilience caught my eye—the way it stands, worn but still upright, as the lawn grows wild, remembering every footstep.

I set out to capture that gentle defiance—the charm tucked beneath years of weather and wear. To me, beauty doesn’t demand polish; it lives in what’s rugged, tired, and deeply rooted. I painted this piece for those, like myself, who find meaning in things that have lasted—objects and places that carry history, show their age with grace, and quietly reflect a life well lived.

Painting it felt like a conversation with the past. Every brushstroke made me pause and reflect—not just on this house, but on all the places that quietly carry history in their bones. I hope it brings a sense of ‘home’ to those who see it; however they define the word.

About This Painting

A large oil painting captures the bow of a wooden boat in a tightly cropped composition. Deliberate brushstrokes enhance the geometry and emphasize the quiet focus of the scene.

An original oil painting showcases the bow of a weathered wooden boat, closely cropped to draw attention to its texture and form. Angled diagonally into the scene, the vessel is framed by light and shadow that accentuate the warmth of aged wood and the cool tones of still water below. Sunlight grazes the boat’s forward edge, casting deep, angular shadows across the calm surface. Each brushstroke is placed with care to enhance tonal harmony and realism. Artist Teresa Bernard signs the piece in the lower-left corner.

Composed on an 18×18-inch gallery-wrapped canvas that is 1.5 inches deep, the painting is stretched across sturdy wooden stretcher bars. The scene continues cleanly around all edges, making it suitable for display with or without a frame. Completed in 2021, the artwork is accompanied by a customized Certificate of Authenticity hand-signed and stamped with Teresa’s personal embossed seal to guarantee its originality.

“Bow of the Boat” exemplifies Teresa’s gift for finding elegance in simplicity. This painting speaks to those who appreciate tranquility, craftsmanship, and the art of subtle storytelling. It invites a quiet pause and an emotional connection through the realism of its execution. Whether displayed as a standalone piece or paired with others from the series, it offers timeless beauty and compositional strength.

Artist Reflections

In a world dominated by modern materials, a traditional wooden boat stands as a quiet testament to craftsmanship and timelessness. That sense of enduring beauty is what drew me to this subject.

Artists often find inspiration through others, and ‘Bow of the Boat’ traces back to one of my early art teachers—a mentor whose love for painting boats quietly left its mark on me. I remember how he would often isolate just one section of the vessel, cropping away the rest to highlight the unique lines and textures. That concept stayed with me, and I’ve carried it forward here, focusing only on the bow. I wanted to spotlight its warm wood tones and the way sunlight grazes across its surface, allowing the boat to speak for itself through thoughtful composition and evocative light.

This piece is part of the Boat Series, which explores the quiet elegance found in everyday nautical forms. With this painting, I aim to create a moment of pause—one that encourages viewers to look closer, reflect deeper, and feel something familiar yet unexpected.

Artist Reflections

Zebras have always intrigued me—their bold black-and-white stripes, so graphic and rhythmic, yet completely organic. Each one carries a pattern as unique as a fingerprint, and that individuality fascinates me. In ‘Eye of the Zebra,’ I wanted to move in close, to let the viewer linger with a single gaze. The eye is soft, steady, and quietly expressive—framed by contrast, but not overwhelmed by it.

There’s something meditative about painting an animal this way. You’re not just capturing a likeness; you’re listening for presence. I wasn’t thinking about a safari or a sweeping landscape this time—I was thinking about stillness, about how a single moment can hold the weight of instinct and calm. This painting is part of my ongoing interest in African subjects, but it stands on its own: intimate, restrained, and quietly powerful.

Artist Reflections

I titled this painting Great-Grandma’s Fine China Teacup because, in today’s world of Starbucks, paper cups, and travel mugs, the tradition of sipping coffee or tea from fine china seems to be fading for many Americans—or at least, that’s how it feels to me.

I once read about a young bride preparing her wedding registry. Her mother insisted she include a set of fine china, but the bride resisted, saying it would hardly ever be used—maybe on holidays, if that. That story stuck with me. It made me wonder: have we lost something in letting go of those small, beautiful rituals?

For generations, pulling out the fine china marked a moment worth remembering. It wasn’t just about the dishes—it was about honoring the occasion, the company, and the quiet joy of sharing something special. And let’s be honest: coffee or tea really does taste better in a fine china cup. There’s something about the weight, the shape, the dainty elegance that elevates the experience.

So, what are you waiting for? Bring out your great-grandma’s (or grandma’s) fine china and use it today. Life’s too short to save the good stuff for “someday.”
