Artist Reflections

I’ve always been drawn to the quiet beauty of outer space—its scale, its stillness, and the way light behaves in the dark. In this painting, I wanted to explore the idea of a distant planet illuminated by two suns. In astronomy, this is known as a binary star system—two stars orbiting one another, often producing striking visual contrasts on surrounding celestial bodies. I found that concept intriguing and wanted to capture it in a way that felt both accurate and visually compelling. The soft crescent lighting effect adds a quiet tension, and it gave me an opportunity to create a scene that feels both dramatic and believable.

About This Painting

The heavens flare with color as an asteroid breaches the atmosphere, casting brilliance against the backdrop of stars.

A blazing fireball dominates the canvas, streaking diagonally across a planetary atmosphere in brilliant hues of orange and yellow. The asteroid is beginning to penetrate the planet’s outer layer, igniting the surrounding gases and heating the atmosphere with explosive force. A burst of fiery light erupts around the impact zone, radiating outward in a splash-like formation. The background reveals deep space scattered with tiny stars that contrast the fiery foreground. The planet’s curvature anchors the composition with a sense of scale and gravity. Artist Teresa Bernard signs the painting in the lower right corner, ensuring originality and authorship.

If desired, the painting can be custom framed to complement your décor and enhance its presence. It arrives unframed giving you the freedom to display it exactly as you wish. Artist Reflections

I’ve always been fascinated by the universe and the dramatic events that unfold beyond our reach. This painting was inspired by the idea of an asteroid entering a planet’s atmosphere—a moment filled with motion, heat, and intensity. I wanted to capture that visual energy using bold oranges and yellows to reflect the fire and force of impact. The composition is designed to draw the eye and hold attention.

It’s part of my Cosmos Series, which explores celestial subjects through realism and detail. With ‘Asteroid Strike,’ I wanted to freeze a fleeting moment of cosmic violence on canvas—the instant an asteroid meets a planet’s atmosphere. I hope this space painting sparks curiosity and a sense of wonder about the powerful events unfolding throughout the universe.

Artist Reflections

There’s something extraordinary about the smallest details in nature—how even the tiniest blossoms can reflect beauty with quiet strength. In ‘Dance of the Dill Flowers,’ I wanted to draw attention to that understated elegance. These yellow blooms aren’t loud or showy, but when you take a closer look, they reveal an intricate design that feels both delicate and bold.

This painting is deeply personal to me. I’ve always found inspiration in God’s handiwork, especially in how He’s embedded harmony and creativity into every petal, stem, and shadow. It amazes me how something so simple as a dill flower can carry such poetic movement and structure—and that grand design is what I wanted to capture here.

The composition has a semi-abstract quality at first glance, and that’s part of its charm. But as you spend more time with it, the realism quietly emerges. It’s that moment of recognition—that “aha” when what seemed abstract resolves into something familiar—that I love most.

Artist Reflections

I struggled to come up with a title for this painting. Every artist in the world seems to call their calla lily paintings by the same name. So, I kept looking for title ideas and ended up at the website of Georgia O’Keeffe, an American artist whose artworks have influenced me.  She created several calla lily paintings, one of which she titled ‘Two Calla Lilies on Pink.’ Her title became an inspiration for mine: ‘White Calla Lilies on Blue.’

The calla lily has always been one of my favorite flowers. I love its graceful shape and simple beauty, especially the purity of the white blooms. Their association with purity, faithfulness, and holiness also gives them special meaning for me. In this white calla lilies painting, I wanted to capture that quiet elegance and the timeless beauty that has made these flowers such an enduring subject in art.

Artist Reflections

‘White Poppies in a Vase’ came from my love of classic floral compositions and a desire to keep things simple, yet elegant. I chose white poppies specifically for their delicate petals and golden centers. They have a quiet beauty that doesn’t compete for attention but still draws you in. There’s something very calming about them, and I wanted that feeling to come through in this painting.

The vase is intentionally understated. I didn’t want anything ornate—just a soft pastel blue with a clean shape that complements the flowers without stealing the spotlight. It’s the kind of arrangement you might find in a quiet corner of a country home or on a bedside table, and I loved the idea of capturing that kind of serenity on canvas.

To me, ‘White Poppies in a Vase’ is about grace in simplicity. This floral still life doesn’t need to be dramatic to be beautiful—it just needed to be honest and inviting.

Artist Reflections

‘Great-Grandma’s Vintage Sewing Thread #2’ is part of my Family Heirlooms Series, inspired by the everyday objects that once filled our homes with quiet purpose. I chose vintage wooden spools of thread as a reminder of an earlier generation, when sewing notions looked very different from those we use today.

The wooden spools also bring back memories from my childhood. I found endless ways to play with empty spools, stringing them together to make necklaces or turning them into tiny pieces of furniture for my Barbie dolls. Ordinary objects became whatever my imagination wanted them to be.

Those memories are what inspired this sewing-themed still life. To me, the old wooden spools represent the place everyday objects can hold in our memories. Through this artwork, I wanted to preserve a small piece of the past and the childhood imagination those simple objects still bring to mind.

Artist Reflections

‘Great-Grandma’s Antique Sewing Thread #1’ is part of my Family Heirlooms Series. This original still life oil painting was created to honor a quiet shift in domestic history—back when thread came on wooden spools instead of plastic. By depicting these vintage sewing notions in a still life, I wanted to preserve not only their appearance but also the memories and family history they represent.

The antique wooden spools depicted in this painting remind me of my grandmother’s sewing box. When she taught me to sew doll clothes, I would rummage through it searching for just the right color of thread. Every now and then, I’d find an old wooden spool tucked among the newer plastic ones—a small treasure from the past. Those memories inspired this sewing-themed still life and gave these otherwise ordinary objects a personal meaning.

Wooden sewing spools gradually disappeared as manufacturers switched to plastic, but they remain wonderful reminders of an earlier generation. In ‘Great-Grandma’s Antique Sewing Thread #1,’ I chose them as the subject of an original oil painting because of the stories they represent—family, tradition, childhood memories, and the everyday objects that connect one generation to another.

Artist Reflections

Roses have long been one of my favorite flowers, both to enjoy and to paint. Their graceful form, layered petals, and rich colors make them especially appealing subjects for floral paintings.

The yellow rose has an added significance for me because of its long association with Texas, my home state. Its warm golden color and beautifully layered petals are what drew me to this particular rose blossom and made me want to capture it on canvas.

In this yellow rose painting, I wanted the flower itself to command attention. By keeping the composition simple and focusing on a single bloom, I could concentrate on its form, color, light, and delicate petals while capturing the quiet elegance I see in roses.

About This Painting

One snail, one leaf—nature’s pairing, quiet and deliberate.

A lone terrestrial snail, pale ecru in color, rests atop a vivid green leaf that spans the canvas. Its shell is tightly coiled, smooth, and subtly ridged, catching light with a soft sheen. The snail’s body is moist and slightly translucent, rendered with careful tonal shifts that suggest quiet movement. Veins run through the leaf beneath it, and its slight curve, along with tonal variations, suggests natural wear. A muted, unobtrusive background keeps the subject central and free from distraction. Signed in the lower left corner by Teresa Bernard, confirming originality and authorship.

Painted in oil on a gallery-wrapped canvas measuring 6″ wide by 6″ high and .5″ deep. The canvas’ edges are painted for a finished look, allowing display without a frame if desired. Terrestrial Snail #1: Last Leaf arrives unframed, allowing for custom tailoring to your personal style and space. The artwork includes a Certificate of Authenticity, hand-signed by Teresa and embossed with her personal seal. The COA affirms authenticity, provenance, and lasting value.

Artist Reflections

I’ve always been drawn to the quiet dignity of ordinary things, and this snail was no exception. There was something about the way it rested—unhurried, unbothered, perfectly placed on a single leaf—that made me stop and look closer. It wasn’t dramatic or symbolic. It was simply present. That kind of stillness speaks to me.

I chose to paint this snail not because it demanded attention, but because it held its own without asking. The soft ridges of its shell, the moist texture of its body, the vivid green beneath it—all of it felt like a moment worth preserving. In a world that rushes past the small and slow, I wanted to give this creature its due. Not as a curiosity, but as a subject with quiet authority.

Artist Reflections

I spotted him in the garden one morning—a bright yellow snail with bold brown stripes, inching his way up a slender branch. There was something oddly compelling about the scene. He wasn’t fast, he wasn’t flashy, but he was determined. That little climb, set against the quiet backdrop of leaves and light, held more tension than I expected.

I kept thinking about where he was headed. Would he reach the top? Was there even a top to reach? The moment felt unfinished, unresolved. That’s what stayed with me. The painting doesn’t answer the question—it holds it open. ‘Common Snail #2: Left Hanging’ isn’t just about the snail. It’s about effort without certainty, motion without conclusion. And maybe that’s why I painted him: to honor the small creatures who move forward anyway, even when the ending isn’t clear.
