A Boy and His Dog evokes the joy of life’s simplest moments when we were young, and everything held wonder. Sometimes life gets so complicated that it’s nice to stop and remember the days of our youth.

When my children were young, like the little boy in this painting, I loved to watch their fascination with the simplest things in life. Things that, as an adult, I often take for granted. Sometimes it’s nice to slow down and enjoy simple pleasures like this again.

Artist Comments

The painting of a young girl in a red dress was enjoyable to create because I used a model who was somewhat familiar to me. She’s the granddaughter of a high school friend. My friend gave me permission to use a photo of her granddaughter as a reference for this artwork.

For the most part, the painting reflects the reference photo, but I introduced lily pads, koi fish, and cattails. These additions were made to enhance the composition’s appeal and to enrich the narrative depicted by the painting.
