Artist Reflections

The story behind this painting begins in the summer of 2016—the same year the American bison was officially named our national mammal. That summer, my family and I traveled to Rapid City, South Dakota, and made a point to visit Custer State Park, where several herds of bison roam freely across the land.

I’ll never forget what the park ranger told us as we entered: “Keep your distance. This is their home. We’re the visitors.” That stayed with me. As we drove through the park, we were lucky enough to witness a herd crossing the road just feet from our vehicle. These animals were enormous, powerful, and breathtakingly calm. I remember wanting to step out of the car and get closer—but of course, that would’ve been foolish. Bison may appear docile, but they’re wild creatures, easily startled and fiercely protective.

That moment stayed with me long after we returned home. I’ve always been fascinated by the American bison—their strength, their history, their quiet dignity. Years later, I finally painted this piece. This isn’t just a portrait of an animal; it’s a tribute to a memory, a legacy, and a presence that commands respect.

American Bison, Where Are They Today?

In the 1500s, an estimated 30 to 60 million bison roamed the North American plains. Today, roughly 200,000 remain—living across all 50 states on Native American lands, wildlife refuges, national parks, and private ranches. South Dakota is home to the largest population, followed by Nebraska, Montana, Colorado, and Oklahoma.

The most iconic herd lives in Yellowstone National Park, where bison have roamed continuously since prehistoric times. What makes this herd especially significant is its genetic purity—these animals are direct descendants of the early bison that once grazed freely across America’s grasslands.

Comments from Art Lovers

“Bison are dangerous. Don’t get “up close” to them. We ran the Bill Cody Ranch for a while. One day someone drove up in a minivan with a broken-off buffalo horn sticking out of the side of the van. They had been up in Yellowstone Park, pulled off the side of the road to look at buffalo, and had opened the side door to take pictures. The flash set one of them off, and he charged the van. They managed to get the door closed just before he hit.” — @Paul47, Gab

Artist Reflections

This painting was a joy to bring to life—not just for the gentle mood it carries, but because the young girl at its center has a personal connection to me. She’s the granddaughter of a friend I’ve known since high school, and with permission, I used a photo of her as reference. That familiarity gave the process an added layer of warmth—it felt like I was painting someone I already knew in spirit.

While the girl’s pose and expression come directly from the photo, I introduced lily pads, fish, and cattails to breathe life into the pond. These details weren’t just decorative—they brought movement, harmony, and a sense of quiet story to the scene. They helped transform a simple moment into something deeper and more inviting, one that encourages viewers to linger and connect.

About This Painting

This evocative composition invites viewers into a quiet rural setting, where a classic relic of the road rests beneath wide-open skies.

A once-proud 1934 Ford V8 sits quietly in the heart of a rural summer landscape. This model is similar to the one famously driven by Bonnie and Clyde, tying the scene to a storied moment in American history. Its weathered black finish is softened by sunlight and time. The paint has begun to peel, and the still posture suggests journeys long since past. Treelined hills embrace the car in a hush of green. Above, a wide blue sky stretches across the canvas, lending the scene a spacious calm. Nostalgia seeps from every brushstroke. The overall mood evokes serenity, memory, and a sense of forgotten adventure.

“Forgotten Roads of Bygone Days” is painted in oil on 24×18- inch gallery-wrapped canvas. The image extends around the edges for a clean frameless presentation and arrives unframed—perfect for tailoring to your personal style and space. Personally signed by the artist Teresa Bernard, the painting comes with a hand-signed Certificate of Authenticity stamped with her custom embossed seal.

Artist Reflections

This painting features a vintage Ford V8, the same type of car that helped make Bonnie and Clyde infamous in the early 1930s. Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow were notorious fugitives who roamed the central states of North America during the Great Depression, robbing and killing alongside their gang. Their crime spree ended dramatically when Texas lawmen ambushed the couple in their car, unleashing more than 100 armor-piercing bullets. Both died instantly at the roadside.

Bonnie and Clyde were laid to rest in separate Dallas cemeteries. Clyde’s gravestone reads, “Gone but not forgotten.” Today, their actual bullet-riddled death car is on display at Whiskey Pete’s Resort and Casino in Primm, Nevada. To learn more about the car and its legacy, visit Roadside America.

I was inspired to paint this piece not only for its connection to American history, but also for what it symbolizes—the passage of time and the stories we leave behind. Bonnie and Clyde met their end in Texas, just as the painting’s quiet scene hints at the closing chapters of an era. The title, Forgotten Roads of Bygone Days, carries that sense of lingering memory—where history fades but never fully disappears.

Artist Reflections

Some of the most gorgeous sunsets in the world happen right here in Texas — though I’ll admit, I might be just a tad bit biased. I love the vibrant, colorful sunsets that I get to enjoy almost every evening. And I’ve always loved the idea of cowboys, horses, and the Old West.

This painting of a cowboy gazing off into the sunset takes me back to my childhood when pretty much all you could watch on TV were westerns. It was a fantasy life all of us kids dreamed about living someday. We would pretend to be cowboys and rode imaginary horses for hours until Mom called us in for supper. Those memories still make me smile.

Years later, when my husband decided it was time to retire from the Navy and settle down to live life as civilians again, we bought some land and built a small ranch in east Texas with a couple of horses, a donkey, and a few head of cattle. It was our dream to live a modern version of the cowboy way of life.

Artist Reflections

Ballet has long been a form of artistic expression I deeply admire. There’s something truly captivating about watching dancers perform live—the music, the sets, the ambiance, and above all, the grace with which they move across the stage to tell a story. When I attend a ballet, I’m always struck by the combination of elegance and strength. It’s an art form that lives and breathes in motion.

Of course, ballet isn’t for the faint of heart. Aspiring professionals often begin their training as early as age two, and joining a reputable dance company takes years of rigorous practice and precise technique. The discipline is intense, and the toll on a dancer’s body can be severe—injuries are unfortunately common in the pursuit of such physical and artistic perfection.

I was in my late teens when I attended my first ballet performance. My best friend Cyndie and her family had tickets to see the Nutcracker Suite at a local theater. I can’t remember why, but she couldn’t go, so Cyndie gave me her ticket. She felt that out of all her friends, I would appreciate the ballet the most—and she was right! That night planted something special inside me. I’ll always be grateful to Cyndie for opening the door to a world that continues to inspire me, both as a viewer and as an artist.

About This Painting

Dressed in white and steeped in spring’s serenity, two sisters wander through lavender that grows beneath a gentle sky.

Two young ladies meander through an endless lavender field, their backs turned, faces hidden from the viewer. They are sisters, gracefully wandering beneath a sky brimming with muted clouds. The older sister, a young woman with long brown hair, wears a flowing white dress and a wide-brimmed hat accented by a soft lavender band. She carries a wicker basket brimming with freshly gathered lavender blossoms. She turns slightly, her gaze directed toward her little sister with blond hair, also dressed in white, who stands quietly with her back to the viewer, lost in her own world of wonder.

Countless lavender blooms stretch from foreground to horizon, blanketing the landscape in cool, gentle purples. Each blossom is richly textured through masterful shading and brushwork. The scene stirs the senses—one can almost smell the faint lavender on the breeze, enhancing the tranquility that settles over the viewer like a soft sigh. Artist Reflections

I was drawn to the serenity of this scene before brush ever touched canvas. ‘Sisters in Lavender’ came from a deep need to paint something peaceful—something that whispered rather than shouted. The open field, the soft hues, the gentle rhythm of the composition all gave me space to breathe. I wanted to capture the feeling of quiet companionship—the kind that exists between sisters or kindred spirits—where connection lives in gestures, shared steps, and unspoken understanding. There’s a stillness to this moment that feels held in place, as though time itself paused to honor it. Painting it was like stepping into the lavender myself—letting the air fill my lungs with its gentle scent and remembering how the simplest moments often linger longest. This is the kind of beauty I look for and try to preserve.

About This Painting

A spacecraft quietly drifts past an alien world adorned with twin moons, journeying through star-laced darkness under the warm glow of a distant red sun.

In this original artwork, a spacecraft resembling a NASA space capsule takes center canvas as it glides through deep space, passing by an Earth-like planet crowned with two luminous moons. A brilliant red sun in the upper right corner casts soft, diffuse light across the celestial forms, while a single comet arcs across the galactic plane—its glowing trail a whisper of motion and mystery. Radiant star clusters punctuate the black void, hinting at unfathomable depth and cosmic grandeur. Artist Teresa Bernard signs this piece in the lower left corner—an assurance of originality and authorship.

Painted in oil on a gallery-wrapped canvas measuring 24 inches wide by 18 inches tall with a 1.5-inch depth. The image is skillfully extended onto all edges for a frameless, ready-to-hang presentation. However, if you prefer, the painting can be framed to achieve a more traditional look. It arrives unframed—perfect for tailoring to your personal style and space. A Certificate of Authenticity is included, hand-signed by Teresa and stamped with her embossed seal to ensure provenance and authenticity.

Artist Reflections

I’ve always loved a good sci-fi adventure—Star Trek, Star Wars, Stargate… any story that dares to venture off-world, deep into space. I sometimes joke that I missed my calling as an astronaut, but then again, maybe I ended up right where I belong—God knows. My passion for exploration—especially the vast mystery of outer space—naturally found its way into my art.

‘Space…The Next Frontier’ was born from that spirit of curiosity and wonder. To me, space isn’t the end of the journey—it’s simply the next step. I believe there’s a far greater destination beyond even the stars: eternity with our Creator God. The Holy Bible speaks profoundly about this, and if you’re curious, I wholeheartedly encourage you to explore it.

“When I was a little kid, I loved to draw spaceships during every idle moment. The adult caregivers eventually cured me of that allegedly bad habit. I know it doesn’t pay well, but please continue with your space-themed art. I think your painting is beautiful!” — @Skylark5, Gab

About This Painting

A boy and his puppy watch the rippling water, surrounded by sand, trees, and the stillness of a peaceful afternoon.

A young boy sits quietly at the lake’s edge, dressed in a black sleeveless shirt and faded blue jean shorts. A bright red ball rests beside him in the sandy shore, adding a vivid pop of color to the tranquil scene. His black Lab puppy sits next to him, attentive and ready, ears perked in anticipation of more playtime. Both child and dog face the water, their backs to the viewer, as a small toy sailboat floats gently by on the shimmering surface.

The lake stretches out in glistening bands of vibrant blue and green, its surface catching light and soft movement from the drifting breeze. Clusters of lush trees line the far shore, their foliage dense and varied—deep emeralds mingle with softer, sunlit shades. Beyond, gently sloping mountains rise in the distance, brushed in dusky blue tones that fade into the horizon. Overhead, a sky filled with layered clouds casts subtle patterns of light and shadow, adding mood and depth to the tranquil scene. Signed by the artist Teresa Bernard in the lower left corner, the signature ensures originality and authorship.

Artist Reflections

‘A Boy and His Dog’ is a quiet tribute to the days when life felt effortless, and wonder came without asking. As children, we moved through the world with open hearts and curious eyes. Finding joy in things as small as a puddle, a boat, a pet, or the feel of sunlight on our skin. Those moments didn’t need embellishment. They were complete in their simplicity.

I think we all need reminders like this now and then because life gets busy and tangled in grown-up things. But every now and then, it’s nice to pause and remember the ease of those early days. A summer afternoon could last forever, and happiness came easy.

This painting is my way of preserving that feeling — the kind that asks nothing yet stays with us always.
