Artist Reflections

There’s something extraordinary about the smallest details in nature—how even the tiniest blossoms can reflect beauty with quiet strength. In ‘Dill Flowers Close-up,’ I wanted to draw attention to that understated elegance. These yellow blooms aren’t loud or showy, but when you take a closer look, they reveal an intricate design that feels both delicate and bold.

This painting is deeply personal to me. I’ve always found inspiration in God’s handiwork, especially in how He’s embedded harmony and creativity into every petal, stem, and shadow. It amazes me how something so simple as a dill flower can carry such poetic movement and structure—and that grand design is what I wanted to capture here.

The composition has a semi-abstract quality at first glance, and that’s part of its charm. But as you spend more time with it, the realism quietly emerges. It’s that moment of recognition—that “aha” when what seemed abstract resolves into something familiar—that I love most.

About This Painting

Timeworn wooden spools wound with colorful thread speak to the quiet beauty of everyday things once made to last.

Four vintage wooden spools are grouped closely together, each wound with sewing thread in a different color—red, orange, green, and blue. A slim sewing needle pierces the green spool at a slight angle, introducing a vertical line that contrasts with the horizontal layout. The background is a subtle gray, allowing the spotlight to remain solely on the spools. Each spool carries evidence of age—gentle wear, chipped edges, and a faded finish that speaks to years of use. Signed in the lower left corner by artist Teresa Bernard, the signature ensures originality and authorship.

Painted in oil on a 6″ × 6″ × .5″ gallery-wrapped canvas. Its compact size makes it ideal for small wall spaces or intimate display areas. The artwork features finished edges for a clean, contemporary look—framing is optional. It arrives unframed, allowing you to style its display to fit your personal taste and room décor. Artist Reflections

‘Great-Grandma’s Sewing Thread #2’ is part of my Family Heirlooms Series, inspired by the everyday objects that once filled our homes with quiet purpose. I chose this title because thread is no longer sold on wooden spools—a change that marks the shift from past to present. Our great-grandmothers likely used thread spun on wood, but today it’s sold on plastic instead.

Although manufacturers no longer make wooden thread spools, that doesn’t mean they’ve lost their usefulness. Their sturdy design and simple charm make them ideal for repurposing, long after the thread is gone.

As a child, I found endless ways to play with empty wooden spools. I strung them together and used them to make necklaces. When I played with my Barbie dolls, I would use them for doll furniture, among other things.

Vintage wooden spools also lend themselves to a wide range of arts and crafts projects. With a little imagination, they can be transformed into decorative pieces or repurposed in creative ways that give them new life. Use them on your own, or incorporate them into a project your children can enjoy. Better yet, make it a shared activity—something you and your children can create together.

Artist Reflections

‘Great-Grandma’s Sewing Thread #1’ is part of my Family Heirlooms Series. It was created to honor a quiet shift in domestic history—back when thread came on wooden spools instead of plastic. Our great-grandmothers likely used these vintage sewing notions in their needlework, and today, they’ve become charming relics of a bygone era.

Wooden spools of thread, once common in sewing boxes, are now over 50 years old and considered collectible antiques. By the time our mothers and grandmothers were sewing, plastic had taken over—more practical for manufacturers, but far less sentimental. I still remember playing with empty wooden spools as a child in the ’60s and ’70s. Later, when my grandmother taught me to sew doll clothes, I’d rummage through her sewing box, searching for just the right color of thread. Every now and then, I’d find a wooden spool tucked among the newer plastic ones—a small treasure from the past.

Wooden sewing spools quietly disappeared in the 1970s, phased out in favor of manufacturing efficiency. But they carry a kind of emotional weight, don’t they? If you happen to come across one, don’t toss it aside. These little pieces of history still hold value—not just monetary, but sentimental. Their worth lies in the stories they hold.

Artist Reflections

This painting came together with a sense of ease and joy. I spotted the yellow rose blossom and felt immediately drawn to its bold color and gentle shape. It was full of personality. The petals opened just enough to show off their golden curves, and I could already picture them filling the canvas. I didn’t sketch or plan; I just started painting, letting the rose lead the way. It had a brightness to it that made the whole studio feel lighter.

What I love most is how something this small can feel so complete. It doesn’t need drama or embellishment—just a single bloom, painted honestly. That’s where the beauty is. I wasn’t aiming for perfection, just a true and simple portrait of something that caught my eye and lifted my spirit. It’s moments like this that remind me why I paint.

Artist Reflections

I’ve always been drawn to the quiet dignity of ordinary things, and this snail was no exception. There was something about the way it rested—unhurried, unbothered, perfectly placed on a single leaf—that made me stop and look closer. It wasn’t dramatic or symbolic. It was simply present. That kind of stillness speaks to me.

I chose to paint this snail not because it demanded attention, but because it held its own without asking. The soft ridges of its shell, the moist texture of its body, the vivid green beneath it—all of it felt like a moment worth preserving. In a world that rushes past the small and slow, I wanted to give this creature its due. Not as a curiosity, but as a subject with quiet authority.

Artist Reflections

I spotted him in the garden one morning—a bright yellow snail with bold brown stripes, inching his way up a slender branch. There was something oddly compelling about the scene. He wasn’t fast, he wasn’t flashy, but he was determined. That little climb, set against the quiet backdrop of leaves and light, held more tension than I expected.

I kept thinking about where he was headed. Would he reach the top? Was there even a top to reach? The moment felt unfinished, unresolved. That’s what stayed with me. The painting doesn’t answer the question—it holds it open. ‘Snail #2: Left Hanging’ isn’t just about the snail. It’s about effort without certainty, motion without conclusion. And maybe that’s why I painted him: to honor the small creatures who move forward anyway, even when the ending isn’t clear.

Artist Reflections

‘Garden Snail #3: Out on a Limb’ was inspired by a quiet moment in my backyard when I noticed a garden snail making its way across an evergreen branch. Its posture—head lifted, antennae reaching—made me pause. It wasn’t just moving; it was exploring. That simple act struck me as something universal: the instinct to reach beyond what’s familiar and discover what’s out there. I painted this piece to reflect that message—exploring one’s world, no matter how small or slow the journey may seem. It carries a message I find meaningful: that curiosity and engagement are part of what makes life feel alive.

About This Painting

A new leaf, a curious snail—and a moment that feels like the start of something unfolding in this small-scale nature painting.

A chestnut brown land snail curves gently around the edge of a green leaf, its spiral shell rich with warm, glossy striations. The shell’s ridges catch soft natural light, drawing attention to its sculptural form and subtle color variations. The leaf’s surface shows tonal shifts and fine veins, rendered with muted earth tones and precise brushwork. Nestled in its natural habitat, the snail’s moist body glistens with translucent highlights against the organic textures around it. Background hues remain quiet and unobtrusive, allowing the subject to stay central. Signed by artist Teresa Bernard in the bottom right corner, the mark confirms originality and authorship.

Painted in oil on gallery-wrapped canvas, the artwork measures 6 inches square with a depth of 0.5 inches. The image continues around the canvas edges, creating a polished look without the need for a frame. It arrives unframed and is ready for personalization to suit your style and space. An official Certificate of Authenticity is included, hand-signed by Teresa and embossed with her personal seal. The COA affirms authenticity, provenance, and lasting value.

“Snail #4: Turning Over a New Leaf” distills the quiet elegance of nature into a compact, visually striking composition. The subject’s sculptural shell and lifelike textures reflect Teresa’s signature realistic style, inviting close inspection and lasting admiration. Whether displayed in a cozy nook, professional space, or curated gallery wall, the piece brings grounded beauty and organic charm to any setting. Collectors seeking one-of-a-kind work with emotional clarity and technical precision will find enduring value here.

Artist Reflections

I was outside, just taking a moment to slow down, when I noticed a snail on a leaf. It wasn’t doing anything dramatic—just moving deliberately, inspecting the surface like it was figuring something out. That small gesture held my attention long enough to matter. I painted the scene because it felt worth holding onto. The snail was on the leaf, and something about it felt honest. It wasn’t symbolic—it just was. That’s enough for me. Nature offers these quiet scenes all the time, and I find myself drawn to them. They don’t need to mean anything big. Sometimes a snail on a leaf is just that—and that’s what makes it beautiful.
