A Teresa Bernard Oil Painting

A still life painting featuring vintage items typically found in a home office or study. It has a vintage feel due to the single-color palette used.

This one-of-a-kind painting depicts a still life of vintage objects typical of a home office or study. Atop an antique wooden desk, there lies an arrangement consisting of a stack of hardcover books, a feather quill pen, a candlestick with a tall candle, a pair of spectacles, and a glass of wine. The monochromatic (single-color) palette used in this painting gives it a vintage look. The painting is signed in the lower left side by artist Teresa Bernard.

The Study painting will need to be mounted in a frame before it is shown because the edges of the traditional stretched canvas are unpainted or raw. This still life oil painting comes with an official Certificate of Authenticity (COA) with your purchase.

The copyright watermark ©️ teresabernardart.com is used exclusively for online purposes and does not appear on the original canvas artwork.

Artist Comments

‘The Study’ is the first painting I’ve done using a monochromatic color scheme. What this means is that I deliberately chose to restrict the number of paint colors I used when doing this painting. The sepias I chose to use in this still life give it a vintage look.  This would be great wall décor for an office, study, den, or even a man cave.

—Teresa Bernard

What exactly is monochromatic?

“Beautiful. This looks like a beautiful way to spend an evening. No computer, no mobile phones, no tv. In the age where the quill pen was used, work (and life) was generally harder, but the leisure time was better as well.” –@wheelbearings25, Gab

Artist Comments

“Still Life with Clay Pottery” is a monochromatic artwork depicting common household items from a typical Iron Age (1200-586 B.C.) kitchen in Israel or Jordan. While visiting the Holy Land Photos website, I found some interesting photos of a reconstructed Israelite House on display at the Haaretz Museum in north Tel Aviv. This painting is from one of those photos.

What exactly is a monochromatic painting?

Monochromatic artwork uses shades, tones, and tints of just one color to create a piece of art. This approach lets artists dive deep into the nuances of a color, creating a visual that’s both unified and rich in detail. It’s all about the play of light and shadow within that one color, which can make something simple look incredibly complex. Famous monochromatic artworks often use slight shifts in color intensity and saturation to create an impactful visual experience.
