A tightly cropped painting of a mud-stucco house with bright blue shutters and a potted plant with vibrant orange flowers sitting on the window ledge.  An antique lantern hangs off to the side of the window. The white and blue house in this painting is reminiscent of those found on the Greek Island of Karpathos.

Artist Teresa Bernard hand-painted Blue Shutters oil painting on a premium 9 x 12-inch canvas board and signs it in the bottom left side. I used a free photo from Pixabay.com as a reference for this painting. Pixabay offers an online collection of copyright-free images that are available for download and use without needing attribution. Occasionally, the website inspires my artwork.

For the “Blue Shutters” piece, I chose a photo taken on the Greek island of Karpathos. I altered the composition to avoid creating an exact copy of the photograph. Compare and decide if my painting surpasses the reference photo. Click here.

A painting of steps with a potted plant leading up to an unseen destination.  The steps and walls of the structure are made of stucco and painted white. The terracotta pot and plant are cast in shadow, with a blue-framed window above. The painting is signed by artist Teresa Bernard in the bottom left side of the canvas.

Up the Steps is created by hand on a high-quality canvas board using an art brush. You will want to frame this artwork before hanging it on the wall. Includes a personalized Certificate of Authenticity (COA).

Artist Comments

Up the Steps is a painting I composed from a reference photograph. This painting conveys a sense of movement as if you could walk right up those steps. And it was this aspect of the photograph that attracted me the most. I did, however, make changes to the composition to improve it.

Artist Comments

This painting’s composition is a close-up of the side of a garden cottage. I thought it would be interesting to crop out as much of the original scenery as possible so that the focus would be solely on a few elements—the window, siding, picket fence, and some flowers. This turned out really well. I’ve used this method before. Below are the other paintings in which I used a tight crop to achieve the desired effect.
