About This Painting

Muted greens and misty blues sweep across the canvas, revealing a boundless forest of pines that seem to breathe in stillness.

A dense forest of pine trees fills the canvas from edge to edge in this painting. Vertical trunks vary in subtle tone and thickness, with dark green needles clustered in natural rhythm across the upper portions. Wisps of fog drift between the trees, partially obscuring their bases and creating atmospheric layers that dissolve softly into the distance. Toward the top of the painting, the fog thins and reveals a serene sky washed in pale blue. Restrained yet purposeful brushwork defines the scene—fine strokes sculpt each tree with gentle texture, while softer blends create the illusion of depth and quiet motion. The artwork is signed by the artist Teresa Bernard in the lower left corner.

Artist Reflections

I love trees! They enrich our world in so many ways—offering shade, cleaner air, and a quiet sense of renewal. But what draws me to them most is their calming presence and natural beauty. Whether standing alone or gathered in a forest, trees seem to carry a rhythm all their own. I often think of them as nature’s silent musicians, swaying gently to a song we can feel more than hear. Capturing that stillness and harmony on canvas is something I truly enjoy.

—Teresa Bernard, oil painter

A Favorite Poem

This poem echoes the spirit of Song of the Trees—a quiet tribute to nature’s enduring presence.

Song of the Trees
by Mary Colborne-Veel

We are the Trees.
Our dark and leafy glade
Bands the bright earth with softer mysteries.
Beneath us changed and tamed the seasons run:
In burning zones, we build against the sun
Long centuries of shade.

We are the Trees,
Who grow for man’s desire,
Heat in our faithful hearts, and fruits that please.
Dwelling beneath our tents, he lightly gains
The few sufficiencies his life attains—
Shelter, and food, and fire.

We are the Trees
That by great waters stand,
By rills that murmur to our murmuring bees.
And where, in tracts all desolate and waste,
The palm-foot stays, man follows on, to taste
Springs in the desert sand.

We are the Trees
Who travel where he goes
Over the vast, inhuman, wandering seas.
His tutors we, in that adventure brave—
He launched with us upon the untried wave,
And now its mastery knows.

We are the Trees
Who bear him company
In life and death. His happy sylvan ease
He wins through us; through us, his cities spread
That like a forest guard his unfenced head
’Gainst storm and bitter sky.

We are the Trees.
On us the dying rest
Their strange, sad eyes, in farewell messages.
And we, his comrades still, since earth began,
Wave mournful boughs above the grave of man,
And coffin his cold breast.

“I really do like it. What catches my eye is the brightness of the color you used sparingly to accent the leaves which draws the eyes around the entire painting. Not sure if that makes sense, but what I’m describing is a good thing. Well-done. :)” — @Who_Killed_SethRich, Gab

Artist Reflections

Autumn has always been my favorite season. After the heat of summer fades, that first crisp breath of fall is like a welcome sigh from nature. The air feels fresher, the light gets softer, and the leaves put on a show that never fails to lift my spirits. I’m drawn to those rich, earthy colors and the peaceful feeling that comes when everything starts to slow down a little.

I also always love the charm of a rustic cabin. Especially one tucked deep in the woods where the only sounds are rustling leaves and the occasional birdsong. A cozy getaway like that, simple and secluded, is the kind of place I often find myself dreaming about.

‘Log Cabin in The Autumn Woods’ is my way of capturing the feeling of that dream. The warmth, the quiet, the beauty of nature wrapping itself around a handmade shelter. I hope when someone looks at it, they feel the same sense of calm and contentment that autumn always brings me.
