About This Painting

A weathered rowboat rests quietly by the edge of a pier, framed by drifting lily pads and gentle morning reflections.

A lonely rowboat, aged and wooden, sits calmly moored alongside a weathered pier. The vessel’s surface is textured with painterly strokes that suggest gentle wear and use. Around it, lily pads drift casually across the water, their rounded forms creating a soft contrast against the linear planks of the dock. Reflections shimmer below—muted blues, silvers, and greens—giving the impression of a quiet, still lake under morning light. The composition is centered, balanced, and naturalistic, with subtle ripples and shadows adding depth. This piece is signed by marine artist Teresa Bernard in the lower left corner, anchoring her authorship into the scene.

Painted in oil on a gallery-wrapped canvas measuring 12″ wide by 12″ high and 1.5″ deep, “Rowboat at the Pier” carries its composition around the sides for a dimensional, frameless presentation. Artist Reflections

Artists frequently draw inspiration from their surroundings, and I’m no different. We live out in the country. One of our neighbors lives down the road and around the corner from us. He has a large pond near the road with a small dock and a rowboat tied to it. Across from him is another neighbor who also has a pond near the road. It’s a smaller pond with lily pads. We pass by these two ponds almost every day on our way to and from our place to the nearby towns. Over time, they’ve become familiar little scenes that catch my eye, no matter how many times I pass them. The inspiration for this painting came from our neighbor’s ponds. There’s a quiet beauty in them that I felt compelled to capture on canvas.

About This Painting

Set against muted green tones, a flamingo’s warm orange plumage and lowered posture guide the eye to the chick beneath her wing.

A vivid orange flamingo is nestled in profile, her curved neck forming a gentle arc above a downy gray chick tucked beneath her wing. The chick’s tiny beak and head peek out from soft feathers, its body completely concealed by the mother’s protective embrace. Fine brushwork brings out subtle shifts in tone and texture across the flamingo’s feathers. A rich mottled green background suggests foliage, and its cooler tones contrast with the birds’ warm hues, allowing them to take visual precedence. Signed by the artist Teresa Bernard in the lower right corner, the mark ensures originality and authorship.

Handcrafted in oil on gallery-wrapped canvas, the painting measures 12″ wide by 12″ high and 1.5″ deep. The canvas edges are painted for a clean, finished look whether framed or displayed as-is. Delivered unframed, it’s ideal for customizing to suit your personal style and space. A custom Certificate of Authenticity accompanies the piece, hand-signed by Teresa and embossed with her personal seal to affirm its authenticity, provenance, and lasting value.

“Flamingo and Chick” captures the distinctive spirit of seasonal renewal that defines the collection. Teresa’s signature realistic style shapes the composition, adding emotional depth to a tender moment in nature. A compelling choice for collectors who appreciate fine realism and the quiet majesty of the animal kingdom.

Artist Reflections

I’ve wanted to paint a flamingo for a long time. Not because they’re trendy or exotic, but because their shape and color have always pulled me in—the vivid orange feathers, the long legs, and that graceful curve of the neck. But I didn’t want to paint just any flamingo. I waited until I found a moment that felt meaningful.

This one did. The adult bird is curved around her chick, wing lifted just enough to shelter it. That quiet gesture felt instinctive and tender—an expression of motherhood in its most natural form. It’s not dramatic, but it’s deeply felt. I wanted to capture that stillness, that connection, and let the composition speak for itself.

There’s something universal in the way animals care for their young. It’s simple, unspoken, and complete. That’s what I saw in this pose, and that’s what I tried to honor in the painting.

Comments from Art Lovers

“Such a strikingly beautiful painting. What I love about this is that you have captured the grace and glamour of a flamingo, the sinuous lines, and the warmth of its motherhood, and the darling little chick. Unusual combination. Motherhood is so often portrayed as brown and homey.” — @life_ontherocks2, Gab

“Great feeling of playful feathers with a nurturing beak!” — @O66Bjsway, TRUTH Social
