Artist Comments

This painting is of a large white dog, possibly a Great Pyrenees. The Great Pyrenees has become one of my favorite dog breeds ever since Lobo, our Pyrenees-mix, showed up at our door one day and decided to stay. Living out in the country as we do, means we get many strays who wander up to our door looking for a place to call home. We don’t know where they come from, but we never turn them away. We try to reunite them with their owner, if possible. If not, then we find them a new home or wind up adopting them ourselves. This artwork isn’t specifically of Lobo, but the dog portrayed in it sure does remind me of him.

A Few Fun Facts About Great Pyrenees

The Great Pyrenees makes excellent family pets with their calm, devoted, and well-mannered disposition. They are very loyal to those they love and protect the family with their lives if need be. In addition, they make excellent guard dogs, especially around livestock.

The Great Pyrenees is a dog of great intellect with a mind of their own, love to figure things out by themselves, and are good at problem-solving. While this is a wonderful trait, it can create a bit of a challenge when it comes to training.

Customer Feedback

Teresa, the painting arrived and it looks wonderful! I can’t wait to see my wife’s reaction this weekend. — R. Draper, Granville IL

Artist Comments

My husband and I both love animals and we will always rescue abandoned pets that God sends our way. We live in the country, and unwanted pets are often left at our place. We take them in, clean them up, feed them, get them medical attention if they need it, and place them in new loving homes.

Dogs are such loving and loyal creatures, and it just breaks my heart when they end up as “throw-a-away” pets. Sandy, a yellow lab, was one of those unfortunate dogs who found her way to our door. We took her in too. Only this time, we adopted her for a family pet. We now have five dogs and three cats, and we love every one of them as part of our family.

When I was commissioned to do this dog portrait of a black lab, a beloved pet named Frank, I was delighted. Frank was a family dog that passed away a while back, and his family still missed him. I did the portrait from a favorite photo of him, so I kept the painting as close to the photograph as I could. The painting was to be a surprise gift to my client’s wife for Mother’s Day. It was my pleasure to do this painting for a fellow dog lover.

Clownfish

Clownfish painting
© Copyright 1998 – Present

Size: 9″ x 12″
Support: Canvas panel board
Description: A rendition of a Clownfish swimming among sea anemones.

SOLD: This sea life painting was sold to a private art collector in Texas.

Artist Comments

Clownfish live in saltwater. They’re also known as Anemonefish because they frequently live among sea anemones. They are brightly colored sea creatures that can be yellow, orange, reddish, or blackish in color. Many have three white bars or patches of white, depending on the species. Clown Anemonefish prefer the warmer waters of the Indian and Pacific oceans, the Great Barrier Reef, and the Red Sea. They are not found in the Atlantic Ocean, Caribbean, or the Mediterranean Sea.

My painting makes this tiny fish look much larger than it really is, as they only grow to between 3 and 7 inches in length. I was visiting a pet shop with my kids one day where some of these were fish on display. I was amazed at how tiny these wondrous sea creatures are!

Some Interesting Facts About Clownfish

    • All Clownfish are born male. However, later after maturity, some will become female.
    • They typically eat algae, zooplankton, worms, and small crustaceans.
    • Clownfish live in a “symbiotic” relationship with their host anemones.
    • They are extremely aggressive fish and will defend their territory and the sea anemone where they live.
    • The Clownfish will live up to 5 years in captivity and up to 10 years in the wild.

More information and photos of Clown Fish can be found here.
