Artist Comments:

“Up the Steps” is a painting I composed using a reference photo. In this painting, one gets the sense of movement, almost as if you could move right up those steps. And that is what attracted me the most to the photo I used.

I belong to a group of artists and photographers on social media who like to share their photos of places, objects, and models (humans and animals) that they photograph. They permit fellow members to paint their paintings using their photos as a reference.

farmhouse painting
© Copyright 2021 – Present

Description: A landscape painting featuring the side view of a rundown farmhouse captures the rustic charm of a bygone era. Its stucco has cracks running through it. And there is a worn-out screen door and window. The yard and bush are overgrown adding to the feel of the neglected look of this Raggedy ol’ Farmhouse. This artwork is signed by oil painting artist Teresa Bernard.

This shabby chic painting is hand-painted on a quality canvas panel board. It will need to be framed before it is can be displayed.

Artist Comments

This painting has that shabby chic look about it and really captures the rustic charm of a bygone era. You know that old tattered look with a neutral background. Yet the grass and overgrown bush, along with a scattering of a few white wildflowers, indicate there is still life present there.

Shabby chic is a term given to a style of interior design where furniture and furnishings are worn or distressed to achieve the appearance of an antique. This style of decor can be extended to the outside patio and garden as well.

Artist Comments

I tend to paint more landscapes than any other genre of painting; however, I would be hard-pressed to say it is my favorite subject matter to paint. The reason I paint a lot of landscapes is that I love to travel!! Whether on vacation with my family, on a weekend get-a-way, or moving to an entirely new state or location, such as a military base where my husband was transferred, I take many photographs wherever we go. Those photos often become the inspiration and reference material for many of my landscape paintings.

Artist Comments

For those who may not know this and for those who do; we Texans are a proud bunch and we love our state. One of the ways we put that Texas pride on display is to paint our beloved flag on our barns and outbuildings for the world to see. It would be a rare thing indeed to travel throughout the Lone Star State and not see a barn or some other outbuilding painted up with the Texas Flag. The barn depicted in the painting above is a famous landmark on US Hwy 377 just east of Stephenville, Texas.

About The Texas Flag

Flag of TexasThe Texas flag (a.k.a. the “Lone Star Flag”) was adopted in 1845 when Texas became the 28th state. It is a rectangle that has a width to length ratio of two to three. It contains a vertical blue field of color and two horizontal fields of color, one being white and the other one red. The flag also sports a single white star which is located in the center of the blue field. This lone star represents “ALL of Texas and stands for our unity as one for God, state, and country.” Each color field in the flag symbolizes the following:

    • Blue stands for loyalty
    • White represents purity
    • Red is for bravery

Life in Texas — Round Hay Bales

Round Hay Bales painting
© Copyright 2013 – Present

Size: 16″ w x 20″ h
Support: Gallery Wrap Stretched Canvas
Description: A landscape painting of large round hay bales depicting life in East Texas. This wall art will not need a frame as the painting extends around the edges of the canvas. Hand-painted and signed by fine artist Teresa Bernard.

painting with round hay bales
Not to scale

Artist Comments

This oil painting is part of a series of paintings about what life is like in the great state of Texas. This painting of large round hay bales is about life in general in the rural areas of East Texas. Cattle ranchers abound here, and since cattle and other farm animals need food, we also have a lot of hay farmers. Everywhere you go, if you don’t see cattle or horses grazing in a large pasture, you’ll most likely see hay growing there, or you’ll see hay that has been harvested and baled.

Hay farmers harvest their hay using equipment called balers. Balers can bale (package) hay in various ways — small rectangle bales, large square or rectangular bales, or large round bales. The large round bales can weigh anywhere from 800 to over 1,500 pounds! When they are that heavy, they have to be moved around with hay forks attached to tractors. Many cattlemen prefer the round bales instead of small rectangle bales as they are less labor-intensive to store and transfer and easier to feed to their cattle. They place these large round bales inside hay rings so their cattle and horses can graze on them for days. However, small farms and ranches may still use the smaller rectangle hay bales since they have fewer heads of cattle to feed.

Description: This is a landscape painting of a classic Ford V8  car from 1934. The vintage car,  similar to the one driven by the notorious Bonnie and Clyde, is sitting forgotten in a lonely countryside with treelined hills in the background and a clear blue sky overhead.

bonnie and clyde car painting

Artist Comments

This painting is of a vintage Ford V8, the same type of car that helped make “Bonnie and Clyde” famous in the early 1930s. Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow were notorious fugitives who traveled throughout the central states of North America with their gang during the Great Depression, robbing and murdering wherever they went. The couple’s crime spree ended in their car when they were ambushed by Texas lawmen at a roadblock and then shot to death when 100 armor-piercing bullets riddled the vehicle. Bonnie and Clyde were buried in separate cemeteries in Dallas, TX. Clyde’s gravestone reads, “Gone but not forgotten.”

Today the actual bullet-riddled death car driven by the infamous couple is on display at Whiskey Pete’s Resort and Casino in Primm, Nevada. There is no admission charge to see the exhibit. For more information about the actual car, Bonnie and Clyde met their demise in, visit Roads & Rides. See additional information at Roadside America.

Description: A landscape painting of van Gogh’s church. This painting depicts the village church in Auvers, France made famous by Dutch post-impressionist painter Vincent van Gogh. The church gives this painting a somewhat gothic feel with its stone walls, large-scale windows, and the tall and imposing tower that rises into the sky.

This landscape wall art will not need a frame because the image extends around the edges of the canvas support. Hand-painted and signed by fine artist Teresa Bernard.

Artist Comments

The Gothic church depicted in this painting was initially painted and made famous by Vincent van Gogh in June 1890. Van Gogh’s church is located in the small village of Auvers, France, where he lived before his death. I wanted to do my own rendition of this lovely church, and the results of that desire are what you see here. Even though our painting styles are vastly different, Van Gogh is one of my favorite Old Masters. From his famous sunflowers painting to that lovely church in the village where he lived, I love much of Van Gogh’s work.

Find out more about Van Gogh’s rendition of this church on Wikipedia: The Church at Auvers.

The Garden Tomb at Sunset

Garden Tomb painting
© Copyright 2004 – Present

Size: 12″ w x 9″ h
Support: Traditional-style Stretched Canvas
Description: An oil painting composition of the famous Garden Tomb in the Garden of Gethsemane bathed in the rays of the setting sun. The empty tomb depicts the biblical story of Jesus’ resurrection and is a perfect reminder of the power of Jesus and the promise of eternal life. This artwork signed by fine artist Teresa Bernard will be a beautiful addition to any home, office, or church.

This painting is hand-painted on a traditional-style stretched canvas with the sides left raw or unpainted. It will need to be mounted in a frame before it is put on display. Adding a frame will give the painting a finished look.

Sold: This painting has been sold to an art buyer in Texas.

Artist Comments

This painting of the famous Garden Tomb is located in the Garden of Gethsemane near Jerusalem. It is one of two I’ve painted of this famous travel place. The other painting is called The Garden Tomb.

Christians worldwide consider this place to be the actual burial and resurrection site of Jesus and not the renowned Church of The Holy Sepulcher. His crucifixion occurred at Golgotha, the “place of the skull,”

The reason many believe this to be the site of the crucifixion, burial, and resurrection of Jesus is that it so clearly fits the description described in each of the Gospel accounts.

Site of the Crucifixion

    • Skull Rock outside the city walls of Jerusalem
    • Near a gate of the city
    • Along a busy thoroughfare
    • At a place of public execution
    • At the place of the skull – Golgotha
    • A garden nearby

Evidence regarding the site of the tomb is in Matthew 27:57-60.

    • Skull Rock located in a garden
    • Belonged to a rich man named Joseph of Arimathea
    • Cut out of the rock
    • Sealed with a rolling stone
    • Entered through a low doorway
    • Burial chamber situated to the right of the entrance

For more information about this popular tourist place, check out this website.

Monument Valley — Navajo Nation

Monument Valley painting

Description: A landscape painting of Monument Valley National Park, Utah evokes the sense of exploring the wilderness. Its red-rock buttes move off into the distance against a blue sky creating a real sense of depth. This painting signed by artist Teresa Bernard would be a great addition to any rustic or Western-themed room.

Monument Valley — Navajo Nation is hand-painted on a traditional-style stretched canvas. Its sides are raw and unpainted. This painting will need to be framed to give it that finished look before it is put on view.

Artist Comments

Monument Valley, Utah, also known as “Valley of the Rocks,” is considered one of the world’s natural wonders and is perhaps the most enduring and definitive image of the iconic American Old West. This valley has long been a favorite location for filming Western movies. The isolated red mesas, striking spires, and sandstone buttes surrounded by an empty, sandy desert have been filmed and photographed countless times over the years.

Called Tsé Bii’ Ndzisgaii (Valley of the Rocks) by the Navajo, this famous valley lies in the southern part of Utah near the Arizona border within the Navajo Nation Reservation. When you first approach the area, these rock “monuments” will take your breath away. The eerie rock formations make you feel like you’ve been transported to another planet. It is truly one of the most majestic places on earth.

The first time I visited Monument Valley National Park, I knew right away I’d be doing a painting of this beautiful valley. In fact, I’ve painted this place several times. I also have memories of several paintings I did of this place when I was a youngster studying under my dad, a professional oil painting artist. My dad loved painting this location too and painted several oil paintings of it himself. None of those early paintings are around anymore. I’m not sure what became of them—my dads’ paintings were sold to art collectors and local businesses in the small community where we lived.

Covered Wagon On The Prairie

Description: A Western landscape painting with a covered wagon on the prairie depicts life out on the open range. The details shown in the covered wagon are impressive and can be appreciated from a distance. The wagon waits alone as a lush green prairie rises in the background to meet a sky filled with overhanging puffy clouds. The painting is signed by fine artist Teresa Bernard.

Covered Wagon on the Prairie is hand-painted on a traditional-style stretched canvas with the sides left raw or unpainted. It will need to be mounted in a frame before it is put on display. Adding a frame will give the painting a finished look.

Artist Comments

We live in the country, and several times a year, a small caravan of covered wagons and horses with riders would ride past our small ranch from a nearby community. This caravan became the inspiration for this covered wagon painting.

Covered wagons and pioneers are some of the first things that come to mind when I think of the Old West. I love that sense of adventure and pioneering spirit that drove early settlers to pack up their family, mount a covered wagon, and move across the Great Plains to settle out West. They are indeed an icon of the American Old West.
