Artist Comments

This painting has that shabby chic look about it. You know that old tattered look with a neutral background. Yet the grass and overgrown bush, along with a scattering of a few white wildflowers, indicate there is still life present there.

Shabby chic is a term given to a style of interior design where furniture and furnishings are worn or distressed to achieve the appearance of an antique. This style of decor can be extended to the outside patio and garden as well.

Artist Comments

I tend to paint more landscapes than any other genre of painting; however, I would be hard-pressed to say it is my favorite subject matter to paint. The reason I paint a lot of landscapes is that I love to travel!! Whether on vacation with my family, a weekend get-a-way, or moving to an entirely new state or location, such as a military base where my husband was transferred to, I take many photographs wherever we go. Those photos often become the inspiration and reference material for many of my landscape paintings.

Texans are a proud bunch, and we love our state. This is evident everywhere you go here. It would be rare to travel through the Lone Star State and not see a barn or other outbuilding painted up with the Texas flag like the one in this painting. And you don’t have to travel far outside the city limits to find one either. This particular barn happens to be a famous landmark on US Hwy 377 just east of Stephenville, Texas.

About The Texas Flag

Lone Star FlagThe Texas flag (a.k.a. the “Lone Star Flag”) was adopted in 1845 when Texas became the 28th state. It is a rectangle that has a width to length ratio of two to three. It contains a vertical blue field of color and two horizontal fields of color, one being white and the other one red. The flag also sports a single white star which is located in the center of the blue field. This lone star represents “ALL of Texas and stands for our unity as one for God, state, and country.” Each color field in the flag symbolizes the following:

    • Blue stands for loyalty
    • White represents purity
    • Red is for bravery

Artist Comments

This oil painting is part of a series of paintings about what life is like in the great state of Texas. This painting of large round hay bales is about life in general in the rural areas of East Texas. Cattle ranchers abound here, and since cattle and other farm animals need food, we also have a lot of hay farmers. Everywhere you go, if you don’t see cattle or horses grazing in a large pasture, you’ll most likely see hay growing there, or you’ll see hay that has been harvested and baled.

Hay farmers harvest their hay using equipment called balers. Balers can bale (package) hay in various ways — small rectangle bales, large square or rectangular bales, or large round bales. The large round bales can weigh anywhere from 800 to over 1,500 pounds! When they are that heavy, they have to be moved around with hay forks attached to tractors. Many cattlemen prefer the round bales instead of small rectangle bales as they are less labor-intensive to store and transfer and easier to feed to their cattle. They place these large round bales inside hay rings so their cattle and horses can graze on them for days. However, small farms and ranches may still use the smaller rectangle hay bales since they have fewer heads of cattle to feed.

Artist Comments

This painting is of a vintage Ford V8, the same type of car that helped make “Bonnie and Clyde” famous in the early 1930s. Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow were notorious fugitives who traveled throughout the central states of North America with their gang during the Great Depression, robbing and murdering wherever they went. The couple’s crime spree ended in their car when they were ambushed by Texas lawmen at a roadblock and then shot to death when 100 armor-piercing bullets riddled the vehicle. Bonnie and Clyde were buried in separate cemeteries in Dallas, TX. Clyde’s gravestone reads, “Gone but not forgotten.”

Today the actual bullet-riddled death car driven by the infamous couple is on display at Whiskey Pete’s Resort and Casino in Primm, Nevada. There is no admission charge to see the exhibit. For more information about the actual car, Bonnie and Clyde met their demise in, visit Roads & Rides. See additional information at Roadside America.

Artist Comments

The Gothic church in this painting was initially painted and made famous by Vincent van Gogh in June 1890. Van Gogh’s church depicted in this painting is in Auvers, France, where he lived before his death. I wanted to do a rendition of my own of this lovely church, and the results of that desire are what you see here. You can find out more about Van Gogh’s rendition of this church on Wikipedia: The Church at Auvers.

Although our styles are vastly different, Van Gogh is still one of my favorite Old Masters. From his sunflowers to that lovely church in the village where he lived, I love much of Van Gogh’s work. He composed many of his paintings using bold, dramatic colors emphasized by impulsive and expressive brushwork. He painted landscapes, still lifes, portraits, and self-portraits.

According to Wikipedia, Van Gogh is one of the “most famous and influential figures in the history of Western art.” In his lifetime, he painted around 860 oil paintings. Van Gogh painted many of his paintings during the last two years of his life. He died at age 37 from a self-inflicted wound. You can read more about Van Gogh here.

Artist Comments

The Grand Teton Mountains is one of the most beautiful mountain ranges in the U.S. Located in northwestern Wyoming, this mountain range is the central feature of Grand Teton National Park. Several years ago, I had the opportunity to visit this park and was awed by the stunning mountain scenery.

Fence Post In The Snow

Description: A wintery landscape painting featuring snow, barbwire, and fence post on a cold, snowy day. This painting is composed on a quality canvas panel and does require a frame before it is displayed.

SOLD: This snow painting was sold to a private art collector in Massachusetts.

Artist Comments

This painting is one of my earlier works. Its wintery landscape setting is one of my favorite snow paintings. I enjoyed painting this fence post with all its knots, texture, and that hole. Painting those shadows in the snow turned out to be quite interesting too. I thought the barbed wire would be a bit of a challenge to paint and almost left it out. I’m glad I didn’t.

UPDATE: I have another fence post painting. It is called “Fence Post in the Meadow“. Check it out.

Sunset Over Texas

Texas sunset painting
© Copyright 2001 – Present

Size: 12″ x 9″
Support: Canvas panel board
Description: A painting of a vibrant Austin, Texas sunset featuring a windmill in silhouette overlooking a pond. This painting is composed on a quality canvas panel board and does require a frame before it is displayed.

SOLD: This sunset painting was sold to a private art collector living in Texas.

Artist Comments

This painting is one of my earlier paintings and unfortunately, I don’t have a better photo of it. It is so much more beautiful in person! I composed it using a reference photo taken by my brother-in-law who photographed the scenery that inspired this vivid Texas sunset painting. The photo was taken near Austin, TX where he lives with his wife.

Texas is known for having some of the loveliest sunsets in America. As a native of Texas, I can attest to that myself. I enjoy painting Texas sunsets for so many reasons, but mostly I love the rich, vibrant colors present in them!

This painting is the second in a series of Holy Land paintings featuring the Garden Tomb. The famous tomb is in the Garden of Gethsemane near Jerusalem. Christians worldwide consider this place to be the actual burial and resurrection site of Jesus and not the renowned Church of The Holy Sepulcher. His crucifixion occurred at Golgotha, the “place of the skull,”

The reason many believe this to be the site of the crucifixion, burial, and resurrection of Jesus is that it so clearly fits the description described in each of the Gospel accounts.

Site of the Crucifixion

    • Skull Rock outside the city walls of Jerusalem
    • Near a gate of the city
    • Along a busy thoroughfare
    • At a place of public execution
    • At the place of the skull – Golgotha
    • A garden nearby

Evidence regarding the site of the tomb is in Matthew 27:57-60.

    • Skull Rock located in a garden
    • Belonged to a rich man named Joseph of Arimathea
    • Cut out of the rock
    • Sealed with a rolling stone
    • Entered through a low doorway
    • Burial chamber situated to the right of the entrance

For more information about this popular tourist place, check out this website.
