Artist Comments

Delicate Arch is depicted against a night sky in this painting. It is a natural geological formation inside Arches National Park near Moab, Utah. The arch stands 65 feet tall and spans 45 feet wide, and is the park’s largest free-standing arch. It is the most visited of all the 2000 geological formations within the park and receives visitors worldwide. The arch has gone by many names over the years, including “Cowboy’s Chaps,” “Schoolmarms Bloomer’s,” and “Old Maid’s Bloomers,” as well as the more mundane “Salt Wash Arch.” In 1934, the arch was given the name “Delicate.”

Delicate Arch was formed by gradually wearing away of the sandstone by weathering and erosion. The other arches in the park were formed in the same manner. It is the most famous of all the arches in the national park and has become a symbolic icon for Utah.

You can find more information about the arch by visiting this website.

Anyone who has visited this national park would probably agree it looks like the terrain of some faraway planet. I had the opportunity to visit this marvelous park in my younger days, and it was a fascinating place that I want to visit again someday.

In 2015 my husband Robert and I traveled to Amarillo, TX, on vacation. While there, we visited the Palo Duro Canyon State Park several times, as it quickly became the highlight of our trip. The Lighthouse is one of many “must-see” attractions when visiting this park. Multiple visits to the canyon also provided me with many photo ops that would be used as reference material for this Palo Duro Canyon painting and future paintings of this park.

Fun Facts About Palo Duro Canyon State Park

Palo Duro Canyon State Park is located in the Texas Panhandle near Amarillo, TX. Nicknamed “The Grand Canyon of Texas” because of its size and resemblance to the Grand Canyon located in Arizona. It is the second-largest canyon in the U.S., measuring 120 miles long, 20 miles at its widest point, and 800 feet at its maximum depth. It also has over 29,000 scenic acres for the tourist or vacationer to enjoy. Like the Grand Canyon in Arizona, the Palo Duro Canyon features dramatic geological features, multicolored rock layers, and steep mesa walls.

For the park visitor, there are hiking trails, campgrounds, horseback riding, and more! The canyon is also host to TEXAS Outdoor Musical, the longest-running musical ever performed on stage. This world-renown musical drama has been performed on an outdoor stage in the canyon since 1965.

Description: A landscape painting of van Gogh’s church. This painting depicts the village church in Auvers, France made famous by Dutch post-impressionist painter Vincent van Gogh. The church gives this painting a somewhat gothic feel with its stone walls, large-scale windows, and the tall and imposing tower that rises into the sky.

Artist Comments

The Gothic church depicted in this painting was initially painted and made famous by Vincent van Gogh in June 1890. Van Gogh’s church is located in the small village of Auvers, France, where he lived before his death. I wanted to do my own rendition of this lovely church, and the results of that desire are what you see here. Even though our painting styles are vastly different, Van Gogh is one of my favorite Old Masters. From his famous sunflowers painting to that lovely church in the village where he lived, I love much of Van Gogh’s work.

Find out more about Van Gogh’s rendition of this church on Wikipedia: The Church at Auvers.

The Garden Tomb at Sunset

Garden Tomb painting
© Copyright 2004 – Present

Size: 12″ w x 9″ h
Support: Traditional-style Stretched Canvas
Description: An oil painting composition of the famous Garden Tomb in the Garden of Gethsemane bathed in the rays of the setting sun. The empty tomb depicts the biblical story of Jesus’ resurrection and is a perfect reminder of the power of Jesus and the promise of eternal life. This artwork signed by fine artist Teresa Bernard will be a beautiful addition to any home, office, or church.

This painting is hand-painted on a traditional-style stretched canvas with the sides left raw or unpainted. It will need to be mounted in a frame before it is put on display. Adding a frame will give the painting a finished look.

Sold: This painting has been sold to an art buyer in Texas.

Artist Comments

This painting of the famous Garden Tomb is located in the Garden of Gethsemane near Jerusalem. It is one of two I’ve painted of this famous travel place. The other painting is called The Garden Tomb.

Christians worldwide consider this place to be the actual burial and resurrection site of Jesus and not the renowned Church of The Holy Sepulcher. His crucifixion occurred at Golgotha, the “place of the skull,”

The reason many believe this to be the site of the crucifixion, burial, and resurrection of Jesus is that it so clearly fits the description described in each of the Gospel accounts.

Site of the Crucifixion

    • Skull Rock outside the city walls of Jerusalem
    • Near a gate of the city
    • Along a busy thoroughfare
    • At a place of public execution
    • At the place of the skull – Golgotha
    • A garden nearby

Evidence regarding the site of the tomb is in Matthew 27:57-60.

    • Skull Rock located in a garden
    • Belonged to a rich man named Joseph of Arimathea
    • Cut out of the rock
    • Sealed with a rolling stone
    • Entered through a low doorway
    • Burial chamber situated to the right of the entrance

For more information about this popular tourist place, check out this website.

Sea of Galilee at Capernaum

Sea of Galilee painting
© Copyright 2005 – Present

Size: 20″ w x 16″ h
Support:Traditional-style Stretched Canvas
Description: An oil painting featuring a rendition of the modern-day Sea of Galilee and the surrounding area. In the foreground is the shore of Capernaum in Israel and is done in a painterly style of brown, red, and green paints. The Sea of Galilee is considered one of the most important sites in Christianity because it is where Jesus walked on water and performed other miracles. This painting is signed by oil painting artist Teresa Bernard.

The Sea of Galilee at Capernaum painting is hand-painted on a traditional-style stretched canvas. Its sides are raw and unpainted. This painting will need to be framed to give it that finished look before it is put on view.

Artist Comments

The Sea of Galilee is a large freshwater lake located in northeast Israel, between the Golan Heights and the Galilee region. The Jordan River is its primary source of water. The lake is approximately 13 miles long and 8 miles wide.

This painting of the famous Sea of Galilee was inspired by my love of God’s word and readings about Jesus in the Bible. I love Israel because God’s chosen people live there. I have never visited Israel; however, I would love to go there someday. This painting was composed using a reference photo from the “Pictorial Library of Bible Lands.” The photographer, Todd Bolen, graciously permitted me to use his photographs for any of my Bible land paintings.

According to Matthew 4:13-22, this historic biblical location is where Jesus began His ministry and called His first disciples. This passage tells us Jesus left Nazareth and went to Capernaum. While walking along the Sea of Galilee, He called the first four of His disciples Simon (also called Peter), Andrew, James, and John.

Permission to use the photo as a painting source is courtesy of www.BiblePlaces.com.

“I love it, and looked at the site. The “Sea of Galilee at Capernaum” put me in mind of something by Turner or some of the Hudson River school. Wonderful stuff.” — josisenberg, SciFi & Fantasy Writers, Gab

“I really like your paintings–the portrait of your husband is very unusual in composition and the backlighting–wish I could see it in real life. Another that really caught my eye especially is the Sea of Galilee at Capernaum–the light in the sky is particularly indicative of something spiritual, even if one didn’t know a thing about the religious significance of the place.” — Elena M., Columbia, MD

Artist Comments

Monument Valley, Utah, also known as “Valley of the Rocks,” is considered one of the world’s natural wonders and is perhaps the most enduring and definitive image of the iconic American Old West. This valley has long been a favorite location for filming Western movies. The isolated red mesas, striking spires, and sandstone buttes surrounded by an empty, sandy desert have been filmed and photographed countless times over the years.

Called Tsé Bii’ Ndzisgaii (Valley of the Rocks) by the Navajo, this famous valley lies in the southern part of Utah near the Arizona border within the Navajo Nation Reservation. When you first approach the area, these rock “monuments” will take your breath away. The eerie rock formations make you feel like you’ve been transported to another planet. It is truly one of the most majestic places on earth.

The first time I visited Monument Valley National Park, I knew right away I’d be doing a painting of this beautiful valley. In fact, I’ve painted this place several times. I also have memories of several paintings I did of this place when I was a youngster studying under my dad, a professional oil painting artist. My dad loved painting this location too and painted several oil paintings of it himself. None of those early paintings are around anymore. I’m not sure what became of them—my dads’ paintings were sold to art collectors and local businesses in the small community where we lived.

One summer, my husband, Robert, and I loaded up the kids and headed off for an adventure on the Outer Banks to discover the lighthouses we’d heard so much about. We were living in Virginia at the time, while Robert was serving in the military and was only two hours away from the OBX (Outer Banks). Currituck Lighthouse was our first stop and the favorite of all the lighthouses we visited that fun-filled weekend. We were excited to discover that visitors can climb its 220 steps to the top and look at the spectacular view. We’ve been back to this lighthouse several times since that first trip, and we always enjoy seeing it again. This painting of the Currituck Beach Lighthouse depicts the fun time we had on that trip.

About Currituck Beach Lighthouse

Currituck Beach Lighthouse is located at Whale Head Bay in Corolla, North Carolina, on the northern end of the “Outer Banks.” Its distinct unpainted natural red brick appearance contrasts with fellow lighthouses along the North Carolina coast, which are painted in striking black and white. The lighthouse was constructed in 1875 and is still being used today to light the dark stretches of the southern Atlantic coastline. Annually the lighthouse welcomes an average of 185,000 visitors.

Some Interesting Facts About Currituck Beach Lighthouse

Description: A  surreal-like painting of the famous camelthorn (or camel thorn) trees in the desert dunes of African Namib-Naukluft National Park. The lifeless trees are surrounded by sand bathed in vibrant colors of orange and blue.

This painting is on quality canvas that will not need to be framed as the image extends around the edges of the artwork. Hand-painted and signed by fine artist Teresa Bernard.

Artist Comments

This camelthorn trees painting was a fun one to do. At first, it appears to be a bit surreal; not the art genre that I do. I’m a realist painter, which means I try to paint things as they appear. This composition is a landscape I painted from an actual photograph of the Namib-Naukluft National Park, Africa. It depicts camelthorn trees with a dune rising in the background. The dune is bathed in orange by the effects of a rising sun. The trees are in shadow from another nearby dune. Some believe these trees have been dead for hundreds of years and that their failure to decompose is because the desert is so arid.

Scaling Mount Kilimanjaro

Description: An oil painting of a hiker scaling up Mount Kilimanjaro, a famous mountain in Africa. Hand-painted and signed by Teresa Bernard.

SOLD: An art collector in New Jersey commissioned this painting.

Customer Feedback

I wanted you to know that I received the painting and presented it to Jim and he loved it! Thank you so much for all of your time and effort. It was well worth the wait! — A. Boutillier, Morristown NJ

Artist Comments

Scaling Mount Kilimanjaro is a commission painting I did for a client who had been on an expedition up this famous mountain in Africa one year. My client supplied the photo from her trip for this painting. Since this was a memorable trip for my client, I kept the painting as close to the photograph as possible. My client loved the finished painting and proudly displays it in her living room, where it receives many favorable comments from her guests.

About Mount Kilimanjaro

Located in Tanzania, Africa, Mount Kilimanjaro is a dormant volcano and happens to be the highest mountain in Africa at 19,340 feet above sea level. Its three volcanic cones are named Kibo, Mawenzi, and Shira. It isn’t certain where the name Kilimanjaro originates from, but there are several theories about that. A few possible meanings could be Mountain of Light, Mountain of Greatness, or Mountain of Caravans. Or it might not be any of these.

This mountain is a popular attraction for hikers and mountain climbers from all over the globe. Some estimate that more people have died trekking up Mount Kilimanjaro than Mount Everest. However, it needs to be pointed out that Everest is attempted by significantly fewer climbers than Kilimanjaro.
