Artist Comments

Artists are often inspired by their surroundings. We live out in the country. One of our neighbors lives down the road and around the corner from us. He has a nice big pond out near the road with a small dock and a rowboat tied up to it. Across from him is another neighbor who also has a pond near the road. It is a smaller pond with lily pads growing in it. We drive by these two ponds almost every day as we come and go from our place driving to the nearby towns. The inspiration for this painting came from our neighbor’s ponds.

Artist Comments

Artists are often influenced by their surroundings, as well as the work of other artists they admire. The inspiration for Bow of the Boat came from one of my art teachers years ago. He enjoyed painting boats. In several of his paintings, he would crop out the rest of the boat to draw attention to one part of the boat, similar to how I did in this one.

Artist Comments

The beautiful Yaquina Head Lighthouse (pronounced “ya-queen-eh” by locals) is located on the Oregon coast just north of Newport and was built in 1872-73. The lighthouse is named after an almost-extinct American Indian Tribe of the same name. It is a popular destination for tourists, who come to explore the surrounding beaches and tide pools.

This painting has almost a “worm’s-eye-view” of the famous Yaquina Head Lighthouse as the viewer looks up at it. I thought that was an interesting angle. At first, I hesitated to paint the lighthouse since I wasn’t sure I could get the angle right. However, I’m glad to have overcome my hesitation and decided to paint the beautiful lighthouse anyway. I love how it turned out.

Description: A painting featuring a sunset of vibrant colors in a tropical setting. Its warm colors make this painting a perfect addition to any coastal-themed home or office. The painting is signed by oil painting artist Teresa Bernard.

This small 6×6 inch tropical sunset painting is hand-painted on gallery wrap stretched canvas. Its small size makes it perfect for small spaces or areas where space is limited. It doesn’t require a frame before display because the composition stretches around the sides of the canvas giving it a modern look. However, if you prefer to have it mounted in a frame, Sunset in the Tropics will look great in your home or office, or any place it is put on display.

Artist Comments

Sunsets in the tropics are truly something special. The combination of beautiful colors, the smell of the sea air, the feel of sand beneath your feet, and the sounds of the ocean splashing against the seashore. The rays of a setting sun have a way of making one reflect on the best things in life.

At one time or another, just about everyone has marveled at the beauty of a sunset (or sunrise) with the splendor of its red, yellow, and orange colors. It may not have been on a distant tropical island somewhere; it might have been right in your own backyard. Regardless, wherever you find yourself basking in the beauty of a sunset, it is the best place to be.

Sea of Galilee at Capernaum

Sea of Galilee painting
© Copyright 2005 – Present

Size: 20″ w x 16″ h
Support:Traditional-style Stretched Canvas
Description: An oil painting featuring a rendition of the modern-day Sea of Galilee and the surrounding area. In the foreground is the shore of Capernaum in Israel and is done in a painterly style of brown, red, and green paints. The Sea of Galilee is considered one of the most important sites in Christianity because it is where Jesus walked on water and performed other miracles. This painting is signed by oil painting artist Teresa Bernard.

The Sea of Galilee at Capernaum painting is hand-painted on a traditional-style stretched canvas. Its sides are raw and unpainted. This painting will need to be framed to give it that finished look before it is put on view.

Artist Comments

The Sea of Galilee is a large freshwater lake located in northeast Israel, between the Golan Heights and the Galilee region. The Jordan River is its primary source of water. The lake is approximately 13 miles long and 8 miles wide.

This painting of the famous Sea of Galilee was inspired by my love of God’s word and readings about Jesus in the Bible. I love Israel because God’s chosen people live there. I have never visited Israel; however, I would love to go there someday. This painting was composed using a reference photo from the “Pictorial Library of Bible Lands.” The photographer, Todd Bolen, graciously permitted me to use his photographs for any of my Bible land paintings.

According to Matthew 4:13-22, this historic biblical location is where Jesus began His ministry and called His first disciples. This passage tells us Jesus left Nazareth and went to Capernaum. While walking along the Sea of Galilee, He called the first four of His disciples Simon (also called Peter), Andrew, James, and John.

Permission to use the photo as a painting source is courtesy of www.BiblePlaces.com.

Your Feedback

“I love it, and looked at the site. The “Sea of Galilee at Capernaum” put me in mind of something by Turner or some of the Hudson River school. Wonderful stuff.” — josisenberg, SciFi & Fantasy Writers, Gab

“I really like your paintings–the portrait of your husband is very unusual in composition and the backlighting–wish I could see it in real life. Another that really caught my eye especially is the Sea of Galilee at Capernaum–the light in the sky is particularly indicative of something spiritual, even if one didn’t know a thing about the religious significance of the place.” — Elena M., Columbia, MD

Description: A nautical theme painting featuring fishing boat fenders, chains, and pier columns. This artistic work will make an excellent gift for that person in your life who has a love for the water, fishing, or boating. It would make a wonderful addition to the nautical-themed decor in your house, office, man cave, or fishing cabin. The painting is signed by fine artist Teresa Bernard.

Artist Comments

Sometimes I like to give myself a challenge when choosing a subject matter for my paintings. I found these fishing boat fenders tied to the pillar of a fishing pier very interesting because of all the different textures (wood pier, rusty chains, and rubbery boat fenders) present. I thought they would make an interesting challenge trying to paint all that texture. One does get a sense of texture from the detail in this artwork.

About Boat Fenders

A boat fender is a type of bumper or cushioned buffer used to prevent a boat or other watercraft from bumping into a dock, pier, or another boat causing damage to its hull. They are often constructed of rubber, foam, or plastic, and they come in various shapes and sizes depending on their use.

Artist Comments

During the summer of 1999, my husband Robert and I sailed his 36-foot sailboat up the ICW (Intra-coastal Waterway) from Florida to Virginia. Robert was in the military and was being transferred from Naval Air Station Jacksonville to Naval Station Norfolk. We saw many interesting sites along the waterway that offered many opportunities to take reference photos for future paintings. This painting of a beached shrimp boat along the Intra-coastal Waterway is from a snapshot I took on this trip.

About The ICW

The Intra-coastal Waterway is a 3,000-mile system of inland rivers, channels, and canals that runs along the eastern and southeast coast of the United States. This ribbon of navigable waters is divided into the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway and the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway. Parts of the waterway are man-made canals, while other sections are natural inlets, saltwater rivers, bays, and sounds.

The ICW runs along the east coast from Boston, MA going south along the Atlantic Seaboard and around the southern tip of Florida, then following the Gulf Coast to Brownsville, TX. The waterway’s purpose is to provide a safe and navigable water route that can be traveled by both lightweight commercial barges and personal pleasure crafts to avoid many of the hazards of travel on the open sea.

Artist Comments

One summer, my husband, Robert, and I loaded up the kids and headed off for an adventure on the Outer Banks to discover the lighthouses we’d heard so much about. We were living in Virginia at the time, while Robert was serving in the military and was only two hours away from the OBX (Outer Banks). Currituck Lighthouse was our first stop and the favorite of all the lighthouses we visited that fun-filled weekend. We were excited to discover that visitors can climb its 220 steps to the top and look at the spectacular view. We’ve been back to this lighthouse several times since that first trip, and we always enjoy seeing it again. This painting of the Currituck Beach Lighthouse depicts the fun time we had on that trip.

About Currituck Beach Lighthouse

Currituck Beach Lighthouse is located at Whale Head Bay in Corolla, North Carolina, on the northern end of the “Outer Banks.” Its distinct unpainted natural red brick appearance contrasts with fellow lighthouses along the North Carolina coast, which are painted in striking black and white. The lighthouse was constructed in 1875 and is still being used today to light the dark stretches of the southern Atlantic coastline. Annually the lighthouse welcomes an average of 185,000 visitors.
